Mar 3 2010 - 10:09am We've been anticipating the premiere of
Parenthood, and it was well worth the wait! Though the first episode packed
quite a punch covering everything from frozen sperm, biological clocks, and quasi-engagements to divorce and dating as a newly single parent, it was a scene about Asperger's syndrome that left me with a lump in my throat. Both the words "Asperger's" and "autism" have become so viral in recent years that many people have become almost immune to their impact.

I felt like the portrayal was very accurate. Everyone's Aspeger's story is a little bit different, and I've come to know two: my brother's and my husband's. While my husband didn't have the outbursts as a child that Max had, my brother certainly did. I felt like I was watching my brother's story onscreen. I applaud the creators of Parenthood for their sensitive portrayal.
1I loved the whole Aspergers storyline. I felt like I was watching my son on the screen. I am waiting with anticipation on how they handle this throughout the show.
2OMG -- I am so sorry I missed that episode. We have an 11-year-old with Asperger's and are always interested in information. Any idea when this episode will be rerun or perhaps where I could find last night's episode?
