Lil Find: My Favorite Mother's Day Cards

Becoming a mother gives you a whole new appreciation for the day that honors moms.

This year I am hoping that the cards I bought for the important women in my life actually make it to them in time. If not, at least get a sneak preview here.

For my mom: Not a fan of the poetic cards with flowers and candy adorning them, I handpicked this "wanted" Seltzer Goods card that states, "You're one of a kind" inside.

For my mama–in–law: Easier than I expected, I picked out a hilarious and appropriate Papyrus card for my mom–in–law who is mother to three. Upon opening, it reads, "Only the strong survive!"

For my stepmother: It's always tough for me to find a card for my dad's wife that isn't too cheesy or over the top. This year, I found the perfect Marzipan Inc. card that simply says it all.

If flowers and cards aren't your thing, a phone call to dear old mom will surely be enough for her this Sunday.

Did You Trade Places For a Day?

Most new moms are physically and mentally exhausted from the life that has become their own.

The newborn screams for milk in the middle of the night and the dirty diapers never cease. And while it's worth every minute of it, sometimes dads miss out on the "fun."

For moms that take on the brunt of raising baby, there are moments when the job doesn't get its proper recognition. Many a husband has alluded to the, "I wish I were lucky enough to stay home with junior all day," sentiment.

In an effort to show their partners just how hard the day–to–day task of parenting is, some mamas leave their spouse and babe alone for a day to fend for themselves. Often upon their return, the father offers a sigh of relief and some compliments.

McMoms Tell It Like It Is

Not so surprisingly, a recent survey states that 90% of moms think it's important that fast-food restaurants provide info about the food they're serving. What is surprising is that McDonald's heard their concerns and is inviting moms to go behind the counter in order to discover how the food is prepared. Their new "Moms' Quality Correspondents" are planning on meeting with McDonald's chefs, nutritionists, suppliers, execs, and more. They'll also be able to check out new products and supplier facilities.

The interesting thing about all of this? The McMoms will be blogging about their experience (well, sort of, I'm sure McD's will have some sway in what they say since it's hosted on their site). However, as Susan Forsell, McDonald's VP of US Quality Systems stated:

"These are real moms, with real opinions and real questions about the
food they are feeding their families.

It will be interesting to see where they go, and what they discover, but something tells me if something goes wrong, that won't show up in the journal.

Survey Finds That Moms Say Having Baby Younger Is Better

Does the age of a mother matter? A new working moms survey conducted by our friends over at The Bump and ForbesWoman had some rather interesting results when questions about age and motherhood were posed. Here are some of the highlights:

76 percent of respondents feel that the "sweet spot" for a working woman to have or adopt her first baby is between ages 25 and 34. And 42 percent thought that 25 to 29 was the best time.
82 percent of moms who had their first child from 25 to 29 were content with the timing of their first child - the most of any group
35 percent of moms who had their first child at 30 to 34 wish they had their child at a younger age.
57 percent of moms who had their first child at 35 to 39 wish they had their child at a younger age.

Are Your Mommy Friends Your Couple Friends?

Make new friends, but keep the old . . . The Girl Scouts knew what they were talking about especially when it comes to mommy friends.

Once a woman has a baby, she actively seeks out other mamas with like-aged lil ones of their own. Knowing moms who are simultaneously going through the same things you are – sleepless nights, teething and spitting up to name a few – makes the journey easier and can help provide a reality check for first-time moms. Making these "mommy friends" often requires a lot of work – introducing yourself to them on the playground, attending "new mom luncheons," or going on "blind dates" arranged by caring friends.

But do you take the friendships to the next level and make "couple dates" with your new-found friends? There often seems to be a divide where women keep their mom friends separated into playdate and moms' night out scenarios, never taking it to the dating scene.
