President Obama Admits to Being an "Overinvolved Sports Parent"

Think your kids could handle the pressure of the commander in chief coaching their basketball games? According to a recent interview with ESPN’s Bill Simmons, Barack Obama has some experience in running the show for one of his daughter’s teams. "Reggie [Love, Obama's brother-in-law and Oregon State coach] and I would be sitting in the stands and we'd be passing her [the coach] notes and whispering. And finally she said, all right, why don't you guys – so we took them to a local gym on Sundays and started running some practices."

When the coach was unavailable, the president would even sit in and run the team during games. "You just want them to win so bad. And when they actually run a play and it works - you’re just ecstatic. And a couple of heartbreaking losses and you’re feeling terrible. But they're wonderful," the president said.

The Obamas Don't Divulge Much About Their Daughters

Since entering the Oval Office, Michelle and Barack Obama have carefully shielded their girls from the spotlight, but the Associated Press rounded up all of the details the proud parents have shared in interviews, including:

Both girls play the piano; Malia also plays the flute. Sasha likes to dance hip-hop. The girls also are working on their tennis game. They are not allowed to watch TV during the week, and weekend viewing is limited. The girls can only use the computer during the week if they need to for school assignments.

And perhaps, much to chagrin of 12-year-old Malia, the President had a revelation that, "'Even though she's 5ft 9in, she's still my baby. And she just got braces, which is good, because she looks like a kid and she was getting ... she's starting to look too old for me." How much do you divulge about your kids?

Do You Have Good Memories From Summer Camp?

Malia Obama will trade the White House for a cabin this Summer as she heads to sleepaway camp for the first time. The 12-year-old first daughter will be away from home for a month, joined by the familiar company of several Secret Service agents. This sounds like a plot for a Disney movie.

Spending time away from your family at camp is a coming-of-age experience. Last weekend I caught This American Life's notes on Summer camp. On the NPR radio program, adults shared memories of camp days gone by, and kids explained how their noncamp friends and family could never understand that camp was the most important thing in their lives - ever.

I am definitely a camp person: as a Girl Scout, I spent Summers at overnight camps and loved all the songs I learned, the counselors I admired, and the friends I made. If you went to sleepaway camp, what good experiences do you recall?

Bo Obama (and his human fam) spent a memorable weekend in Chicago for Memorial Day - lucky dog! While the presidential pup didn't spend this holiday working as he has in the past, and there was no parade in his honor, he seemed to enjoy a long walk about town as a pooch of leisure. I'm still wondering if the Portuguese Water Dog found time to take a dip, too, as his breed name implies.This sighting reveals yet another leash, which makes me think Bo boasts quite the collection to lead the way - see more of his walk through the Windy City in the gallery below.

Reese, Justin, and the Glee Kids Light Up the President's Egg Roll!

The South Lawn at the White House in Washington DC was the place to be this morning as President Obama hosted the annual Easter Egg Roll. His daughters, Malia and Sasha, were out alongside the first lady, while other celebrity babies like Ava and Deacon Phillippe were able to join in on the fun. Reese Witherspoon read to the children who gathered for the event, and she flew to the East coast with Ava and Deacon yesterday after celebrating the holiday on Saturday with Jim Toth. Joining Reese to entertain the youngsters were Justin Bieber and the cast of Glee, whose shaky performance is making headlines

"Sasha, I'm telling you... it's just water!" If there's one confidant a girl can depend on, it's usually her sister. Malia (left) and Sasha Obama attended the "Fiesta Latina" on the South Lawn of the White House where Salsa and Spanish music were the tunes of choice. While we weren't actually privy to the darlings' conversation, we can only imagine what the two were whispering about in the dark. Known for her astute observations, Malia may have decided to announce that she too, wanted an adult wine glass full of sparkling water.

In Italy, Obama Daughters Dabble in Gelato-Making

Meet Malia and Sasha Obama, first children - and future gelato makers? While President Obama was in Rome, Italy, for a G-8 summit, the US embassy contacted the Italian capital's most renowned gelato parlor, Giolitti, to arrange an insider's ice cream tour for the commander in chief's daughters. At the historic gelateria, Malia, 11, and Sasha, 8, donned aprons to become frozen-dessert makers for the afternoon. The sisters, accompanied by their grandmother, made blackberry and banana gelato. According to parlor owner Nazareno Giolitti, "Right after they made gelato, they tasted it straight from the machine, and the youngest one said, "It really tastes like blackberries." The girls, who Giolitti said "ate with great gusto," left with a whopping 6.6 pounds each of their ice cream, and took some home for the first lady.

Giolitti later showed a local television station a tub of some of the blackberry flavor the Obama girls created, saying that the leftover ice cream was immediately picked up by customers who wanted their cones filled with it. If I were him, I would have sold it for a killing on eBay.

Bo Hits a South Lawn Luau . . . But Needs This

We wouldn't leave our pets out of a family party in the backyard and the same is true for the first family including Bo in some fun. Michelle (and Malia) walk their Portuguese Water Dog down to the South Lawn to attend a luau hosted by President Barack Obama for members of Congress and their families yesterday. I think I see a wagging tail!

Hopefully the event includes dog-safe snacks, and I'm glad to see the girls' hibiscus leis far from Bo's mouth as that's a plant toxic to dogs! What I don't see is any Hawaiian print on the pooch. Sad. Granted his curly hair makes it impossible to spot the collar but I've picked out some print ideas for another big bash. Hey, and maybe next time the first family travels to Hawaii they'll hit up my favorite Cocojor shop for a doggie shirt, too?
