Do You Have a Kids' Table at Holiday Dinners?

My mom has a big family, which resulted in packed holiday gatherings. I don't recall a kids' table, but I do remember the "fun table." It wasn't a designated spot - my sister and I always slipped into seats far away from our parents and next to my young aunts and uncles. For conversational reasons or the sake of space, many families have a table just for children at their festivities. Do you?

Jellio Cupcake Table: Kid Friendly or Are You Kidding?

Sex and the City may have put cupcakes back on the national radar, but moms have always known that these bite-sized treats induce smiles. The sweet treats aren't just limited to birthdays and national holidays with the Jellio Cupcake Table ($750). The wrapper-like table comes in nine happy colors and features a clear or frosted glass top with no sharp edges in need of baby-proofing. What's your opinion?

Kidoodles: Thanksgiving Tablecloth

Since Thanksgiving is next week, we thought you could use a simple arts and crafts project to entertain your kiddos and help you prepare for the holiday. Let your children be in charge of the tablecloth. They will appreciate the opportunity to get involved and relish the chance to get a lil messy - all in the name of helping out!

You just need the following items:

A piece of butcher paper (white works well with all colors)
A few sponges
Festive colored paints
A few pieces of blank paper
Scissors
Plates or bowls for paints
Markers or crayons

First, measure the table so you know how much butcher paper you will need. Once you have that, cut the paper and place it on a flat even surface like the floor or table top.

Next, draw whatever designs you want to use on the tablecloth and draw them on a piece of paper no bigger than the sponge you will use.

Once you have completed your drawing, cut it out and trace it on the sponge. Then cut along the traced line so you have your sponge design.

Now you are ready for the fun part! Put some paint in the plates or bowls and dip one side of the sponge into the paint. Gently press it onto the butcher paper. Voila! Use different colors and shapes to fill the paper.

Once it's all dried up, let your little ones draw on the paper and write "Happy Thanksgiving" or "I am thankful for ...", or a saying of their choice.

Finally, put the cloth on the table and ask your lil helpers to set it with plates and silverware!

Delilicious: Monster Candy Eyeballs

I know it is only a short while before my lil ones come home with bags of treats, so I wanted to try to make my own candy! Epicurious had a great recipe for a frightful version of buckeye candy; traditionally it is a peanut butter ball that is then coated in a thin layer of chocolate. With a little creative dunking and a bag of M&M's, these candies are transformed into a spooky, yet, scrumptious monster eyeball.

Kids can definitely help with the whole process because the recipe only requires a microwave. You might even be grateful as mixing the peanut butter and powdered sugar is best done by hand and can be a pretty messy job! The finished candies would be cute packaged in small gifts bags as a ghoulish treat for your kids' friends! Tasty Treats For Halloween Bashes: Trick or Treat Lollipops

Halloween may be all about the costumes and candy, but that doesn't mean you can't trick kids with a treat that's healthy too. Take an all-time childhood favorite – the lollipop – and convert it into something that will fill trick-or-treaters up with necessary nutrients.

Take a selection of firm fruits like watermelon, cantaloupe and pineapple and cut them into thick slices. Then using cookie cutters cut them into fun shapes, filling holes in one slice with smaller pieces from other fruits like blueberries, grapes or strawberries. Place bamboo skewers into the pieces to create fruit lollipops that lil ghosts and goblins can't keep their hands off of throughout the party.
