Tell Mommy: Does the Term "Housewife" Offend You?

I've never been a full time stay-at-home mother (except for when I was on maternity leave), but I was raised by one and feel the sting every time I hear the term "housewife" used to describe a mom who opted out of the work force to focus on her children. The SAHM mamas I know aren't popping bonbons on the couch and watching soap operas or scrubbing the kitchen floor with a toothbrush and playing bridge, they are educating their offspring, shuttling carpools, catering school parties (when a lot of working parents can't make it), not to mention raising the next generation. This doesn't discount the fact that many working moms do some of the same things. But, it's 2009 and the term "housewife" seems a bit demeaning and outdated. What's your opinion?

Moms can be a protective bunch - sticking up for their child when they are wronged or going to bat for their hubby when someone shoots him down. And sometimes, she takes that badge of motherhood and uses it for her own agenda. In the "Don't Walk on the Grass" episode of Desperate Housewives, Gaby chews out Juanita's principal, which earns her daughter a leave from school. While the sassy-mouthed mama believes Juanita's punishment is too harsh, she goes overboard and gives the head of the school a piece of her mind. Always the voice of reason, it is Carlos that calls her out on her selfish act.

Are You Honest to God Happy With Your Life?

The Rolling Stones may have said it best when they sang, "You can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you just might find, you get what you need." Many young ladies dream of a life full of children, a dreamy hubby and all of the fabulous side dishes that come along with motherhood. But ask most any mum and chances are, they will admit their reality is far different from the imaginary one they created before entering mommyhood, and hopefully, for the better. In the "The God-Why-Don't-You-Love-Me Blues" episode of Desperate Housewives, Gaby reveals to Carlos that though her life is completely different from what she once expected, she is honest to God happy. It turns out that fretting about detergent, lost keys, groceries and spot removal can make a woman pretty satisfied when it's all done in the name of love.

So tell mommy, are you leading the life you once imagined? And like Gaby, are you honest to God happy with your life?

Can You Handle Any More Real Housewives?

If there's one thing I've learned from Bravo, it's that housewives can be really scary. Just when I thought women could not get any more immature than The Real Housewives of Orange County, The Really Scary Housewives of New York debuted bringing catty to a whole new level. And, now the network has hand picked another city to wreak havoc in - Atlanta. So we've gone from oranges to apples to peaches in hand, are you going to bite?

Mama's Hiding Her Pregnancy For a Raise

Pregnancy is to be celebrated but there are rare occasions when a woman tries to hide her expectant status to reap the benefits of a vacant womb, especially in the workplace. In the "Never Judge a Lady by Her Lover" episode of Desperate Housewives, Carlos gives Lynette a promotion that she initially tries to reject knowing she has two babies in her belly. When the boss man mentions the salary increase, she quickly takes the offer and keeps her mouth shut about her impending arrivals. As he walks out the door, he admits he is giving the job to Lynette because the other candidate appears to be pregnant, making Lynette the more attractive option of the two.

Lynette Tells It Like It Is

In the season six premiere of Desperate Housewives, viewers find out that Lynette and Tom are expecting twins again. As a mother who knows the routine, she goes in for a doctor's appointment and begins chatting with a perky, first-time mom-to-be. A straight shooter, Lynette tells the woman some stories that could make our Why Didn't Anybody Tell Me list and rains on the pregnant lady's parade. I was in stitches as she reveals some ugly truths of motherhood, especially the bit about bikinis, but the end of the episode left me a tad teary as she wonders about her ability to love the unexpected babies.

Wee TV: The Really Scary Housewives of New York City

It's hard to tell what's appropriate when it comes to the Really Scary Housewives of New York City.

The grown women gossip behind each other's backs, throw fits, and seem all together unbalanced. But, when four-year-old Francois had a shrieking tantrum - it struck a nerve with all the housewives. To see what happened, read more.

The "genius" multilingual child of attached at the hip couple, Simon and Alex got bored of the dinner party antics in last night's season finale and decided to create some of his own by running around the table and stabbing Jason's $30 burger to bits.

What ensued was even more ridiculous. Bethenny and Ramona had a meeting of the minds on how children should act. I'm not sure if outspoken Bethenny (who threatened to stab Jill with a fork earlier in the episode) and her blond sidekick, Ramona (who is continually rude) should feel comfortable standing on a soapbox.

Meanwhile, Francois's parents so set on moving to the "upper echelons" of society through connections, stared blankly as their lil guy wreaked havoc and announced that the tot is allowed to play with food.

Who knew there were women that could put The Real Housewives of Orange County to shame? But, last night, my jaw dropped as I watched the train wreck that is The Real Housewives of New York City.

The new queen of mama drama in the Big Apple is Ramona Singer, a blond bombshell of sorts that makes it her mission to make her 12-year-old daughter, Avery uncomfortable. To hear about Ramona's antics, read more.

Between chatting up pole dancing techniques and the term MILF, wrestling and kissing a friend poolside and threatening to toss a dog in the water, the loud mouth momster was more than a viewer could handle let alone her self conscious preteen who sat looking on in disgust.

In an interview, the reserved Avery said her mother tends to take things a bit too far and acts in a manner that isn't "ladylike."

What do you think, is it Ramona's prerogative or should she consider her child's feelings?

Would You Buy a Parenting Book From a Real Housewife?

When the Really Scary Housewives of New York City aired last Spring, most of you were appalled by the women's parenting skills. The series' final episode, in which one of social climber Alex McCord's sons threw a shrieking temper tantrum in the middle of a dinner party while his parents sat idly by, brought out the claws with several of you, suggesting that the family needed to spend more time at home teaching social skills and less time gallivanting about town. We've now heard that Alex, and her husband Simon, are co-writing a parenting book based on their experiences with their own tots.

Given what you have seen of the McCord family on TV, would you consider purchasing their tome?

Wee TV: The Really Scary Housewives of New York City

Last week, Ramona's antics and Avery's reactions stole the show on The Real Housewives of New York City.

But this week, it was Jill Zarin and her 14-year-daughter, Allyson that were the focus. And, more than the Manhattan mommy shipping her girl off to a detox center to improve her arthritis (read: lose weight), it was the odd pressure she puts on the teen to have a relationship with her step-dad, Bobby that made me uncomfortable.

Do you think it's fair for Jill to force a relationship on Bobby and Ally?
