Holidays don't always go the way we plan them. Instead of spending the week playing with new toys and visiting with rarely seen friends and family members, my tots were quarantined due to double illnesses. We spent one night at an emergency clinic, and the following day at a pediatrician's office thanks to a double ear infection and a horrible case of herpengina.

Hark the herald angels have sung, and the holidays are nearly over. Sixty-five percent of you said Santa met your family's expectations this year, but what was the favorite memory born from this year's celebrations? Was it the gifts, the meals, the board games, or the silly smiles between shopping and party shuffling?

The wrapping paper is all crumbled up, and the milk and cookies are long gone. Now that Saint Nick has come and gone, we want to know how the old man did this year.
When we inquired about holiday budgets, some parents planned on a thrifty $50 limit per child while others expected to spend $1,500 or more.

The stockings were hung by the chimney with care with hopes that they'd soon be stuffed with good fare. Good lil boys and girls race to their oversized velvet socks to see what small treats Santa has left them. They may not know the drill yet, but wee ones deserve just as much loot as their older counterparts.

Forget eating... the couple that shops together, stays together. Instead of heading out on a shopping trip all on her lonesome, mama should consider hiring a babysitter for the daytime so she and her loved one can tackle the toy tasks together.

The holidays are ripe with rich family traditions — from opening one present on Christmas Eve, making homemade treats, cutting down a tree to wearing silly matching PJs and giving dad or grandpa the gift of ugly ties. In my family, taking a photo of the entire crew in their Christmas Day garb has been a staple tradition since I was a child, but we sneak in plenty of more seasonal and fun customs — especially now that the "kids" have kids — like making popcorn and watching Christmas flicks and eating my aunt's almost inedible fruitcake. What is your family's favorite holiday practice?
