Would You Dye Your Hair at Your Daughter's Request?

The three year-old thought pastel tresses would look good on her mommy, so the actress obliged with a few colored strands.

If the look wasn't dramatically different, would you do this for your child?
How Do You Feel About Dying Your Hair While Pregnant?

Does being with babe mean two-tone hair color, noticeable roots or having to go gray?

While pregnant, I worried about my vanity and any possible implications that chemical hair dyes would have on my growing child. After chatting with my OB/GYN and my hairdresser, I opted for highlights, as they don't saturate the scalp as much as a full coverage dye.

On the topic, WebMD says:

We don't know much about the safety of hair dyes during pregnancy. It's likely that when you apply hair dye, only a small amount is absorbed into your system. So very little chemicals, if any, would be able to get to your baby. In the few animal and human studies that have been done, no changes were seen in the developing baby. Talk with your doctor if you have questions or concerns.

How do you feel about dying your hair while expecting?
Mom–Me Time: Color Mark

It's Saturday night and you are headed to a glitzy affair. Your hubby is dapper, your frock is smashing, and the kids are sawing logs. One last check in the mirror and you realize, your gray hairs have sprouted out all over the place. What's a girl to do?

For graying moms who are on the go and can't make it to a three–hour hair appointment to touch up those roots, Color Mark temporary hair color may be the answer.

To learn more about this lil lifesaver, read more.

The mascara–type tube of color is a cinch to use. The enclosed mini comb holds the gray hairs away from the scalp while the foam color–tipped applicator slides the dye onto the troubled areas. Dry in no time, you can brush it through or even hair spray your coif. When you've had enough of it, you just shampoo and rinse.

The convenient wand is easy and the tube of magic does not contain ammonia or peroxide making it safe for mamas–to–be. Available in 12 shades, there's a color for every head.

Lil Tip: Pick Your Battles

Sometimes you have to meet your kid in the middle. My daughter is pretty easygoing so when she asked for pink hair, I knew I'd be able to talk her into something a little less appearance altering. At four and a half, dye was out of the equation even if she pressed, but I was willing to cave on a wig. Then, an attachable pink hair piece caught her eye while we were passing Claire's at the mall. For $6, it brought a shock to her locks, me a peace of mind, and everyone was happy.

Why Didn't Anybody Tell Me: Talks

They say kids grow up fast, but lately I'm blown away. Last week, my art obsessed daughter told me she can't wait to get a "needle" tattoo. I knew this was coming ever since she noticed mine as I stepped out of the shower a couple years ago. With wide eyes, she blurted out, "I want one," but I talked her in to waiting until she's 25. A couple days ago, she told me she "really needs a pink wig." I thought the conversation was headed toward Halloween, but she explained that it's because she's tired of having messy hair on the mornings I'm at work and my husband attempts to style it. "That way I can just put on a wig and go out," she explained. I'm considering caving on this one so she doesn't try to dye her hair.

Yesterday, she surprised me with the latest topic - sleeping with the opposite sex. A classmate told her he slept in the same bed as his girl cousin and they had a pretend wedding and kissed on the lips. In disbelief she said, "He doesn't even know that you can't marry your cousin. And, you're only supposed sleep with your boyfriend or girlfriend and kiss them on the lips!" My daughter is four and a half, I wonder what the topics of our conversations will be at 14?

Are you ever surprised by what your child talks about?
Tween Trend Is All About the Tresses

Peroxided heads have long been considered pageant girl pretty, but now more and more mainstream tweens are heading to salons to take advantage of their services. And, it's their parents who foot the bill.

To find out more about the trend, read more.

Gone are the days of the simple cut and blow dry - young ladies between the ages of eight and 12, some as young as six - are chemically treating their hair to get the natural and bold effects of highlights and lowlights. And, the intensity of the finished looks vary from subtle streaks to funky chunks.

A recent New York Times article about the trend said:

Hair treatments like shiny glosses or full-color dye plus highlights, once reserved for women with salaries and mortgages, have increasingly become the norm for pre-pubescent girls as more busy parents with discretionary income are willing to pay salon prices for what used to be done at home.

Would you pay for your tween to dye her 'do?

Source
