Lil Find: Days of the Week Hairclips

In the rush of a school morning, the less you have to think about, the more likely you are to get out the door on time. That's why I was so excited to find these adorable days-of-the-week barrettes ($60). The set comes with a variety of colors that are sure to match your daughter's Fall wardrobe.

The handmade clips are made of individually stitched pieces of felt with the clip sewn inside, so there is no glue to get stuck in your lil one's hair. With clips preassigned for each day of the week, that's one less argument you and your princess have as you try to make it to the schoolhouse on time.

Trendtotting: Ribbies Hair Clips

Though my daughter was dressed in pink duds and floral prints for the first 18 months of her life, people would stop and say, "Oh, HE is so cute!" I thanked them for the compliment and wondered how they didn't notice her frilly get-ups. Desperate to put bows in her hair, none were capable of pulling back the few wisps she had on her nearly bald head.

But, now a couple more strands of hair were all we needed for Ribbies. These lightweight clippies have a foam grip to help keep the hair in place without slipping or causing a tot the pain that often accompanies metal barrettes. Good luck trying to pick just one pair of the ribbon adorned clips - they are available in 78 cheery grosgrain varieties.

Lil Find: Cupcake Hairclips

Hair clips for little girls are darn cute these days. I remember having long ribbon ones that my mom made for me when I was little. I loved them and wish I knew how to make them myself. Perhaps, I'll find out over the holidays and share that with you on my next Kidoodles.

Until then, I stumbled upon these precious cupcake barrettes for only $4 a pop. They measure about two inches across and can be customized with a "no slip grip" to help with fine hair. Your own lil cupcake will love them so much she'll be begging, "Mommy, please? With a cherry on top?"

Lil Find: Best Baby Clips

My daughter has a thick of platinum-blonde hair, but as an infant the baby-fine strands had a hard time holding on to decorative clips. And, there's nothing more annoying than having your lil darling decked out in a dress and being asked if she's a boy!

Then, I found these fool-proof barrettes by No Slippy Hair Clippy. The $6–$20 handmade bows are velvet lined with a magnetic clip that secures them to the hair shaft and won't do any damage if your tot tugs at them. Available in everyday and soirée styles all named for lil girls from Ava to Lola to Kennedy, you can find the perfect accessory for any outfit. And, this mom-owned company makes special varieties for holidays and birthdays.

What to Do With Those Pearly Whites

Now that the tooth fairy has paid for her pearly white treasure, it's up to mom and dad to decide what to do with the tiny enamels. Parents often clip their wee one's first lock of hair for a keepsake but hanging onto a lifeless tooth is a tad different. Many folks toss them in the trash while others make keepsakes out of them. Some find reason to bury them in the backyard. What did you do with baby's first set of chompers?

Prepping Junior For the Emergency Room

Sound the alarms! Lil Bobby fell out of a tree and broke his collarbone! Or maybe little Susi swallowed a hair clip. Sooner or later, most every parent will have to take his or her tot to the emergency room for immediate attention. It's only natural that babes suffering broken bones, high fevers and stove burns will be frightened to visit the hospital, but moms and dads can make the experience a bit easier with a few words and tricks from home. On the way there, take a breath from the chaos and explain the process and if you have time so your child knows what to expect. If you have the chance to grab goodies from home bring some snacks and something comforting (think teddy bear, video game, blanket) so your child feels comfortable.

Has your wee one made a trip to the ER yet?

Taking the Fear Out of Baby's First Budget Haircut

The first cut may be the deepest, but it doesn't have to be painful for mother or child. Taking the plunge and giving your lil one their first haircut is a momentous occasion for new parents. Though tradition says to wait until the first year before snipping away the baby curls, 22 percent of lilsugar readers clipped before their child's birthday. While moms may book a salon appointment for the perfect photo opp, a baby's cut can be done at home for those on a budget. And, we promise, no bowl is involved! To check out our tips, read more.

Take your tot to the salon with you so she will recognize the spray of the water bottle, the shine of the scissors and the combs and brushes that will be used for her cut.

Prepare your kiddo by talking about how he will be getting a haircut like Mommy and Daddy.

Plan the cut for a time when your child is well rested and in a good mood. First thing in the morning or right after a nap and snack are usually ideal.

Enlist the help of a friend or family member to entertain or distract the child during the process. A high chair may be a good seating option.

Give your child some toys or a spray bottle and turn on a video or the music he likes to keep him entertained.

Wet the child's hair with a spray bottle and comb the hair in the natural direction of growth.

Pull small sections of hair between your index and middle fingers, cutting the hair below the fingers in a straight line.

Start in the back of the head and then work your way around to the front as you gain confidence.

Cut small amounts first, knowing you can go back and cut more as needed.

Be prepared to take small breaks to play with the child throughout the process.

Invest in a pair of clippers that will only lop off a certain amount.

Ryder Robinson Rocks a Shorter Hair Style!

Kate Hudson hit the town with her 5-year-old sidekick, Ryder, who must have had his first hair cut! The lil guy known for his long dirty-blond locks now has a shorter-length look that frames his cute face. Twenty-two percent of lilsugar readers clipped their child's hair before their first birthday and just about everyone else gave clipper consent before their kiddo headed to kindergarten. Kate, a laid-back mama known for her bohemian and beachy style, might have liked her son's straggly strands and may have had a hard time parting with them. Do you prefer Ryder's old rocker look that resembled that of his daddy, Chris, or the new 'do?

Hi Ho, Hi Ho, It's Off to Camp We Go!

After spending a weekend in camp country, I got nostalgic about the old beat up camp trunk I took on my childhood trips. Camps usually send a list to parents to help them prepare their kiddos for the weeks away from home, but it helps to have a second checklist to cross-reference so mama feels good about putting her sweet babe on the bus. Print this roster out and get to folding!

The Basics:

Towels

Sheets

Sneakers

Swim shoes

To see the rest, read more.

Flip-flops

Hat

Shorts

T-shirts

Jeans

Sweatshirt or fleece for chilly nights

Sweatpants

Underwear

Pajamas

Raincoat

Socks

Swimsuit

Swim coverup

Dresses or clothes for camp dances

Toiletries:

Shampoo and conditioner

Soap

Toothpaste and toothbrush

Dental floss

Deodorant

Hairbrush

Hair clips, headbands, rubberbands, etc.

Hair dryer

Laundry bag to place all dirty clothes

Q-tips and cotton balls

Nail clippers

Sunscreen

Bug repellent

Personal Miscellaneous Items:

Camera and film

Batteries

Water bottle

Sleeping bag

Flashlight

Cards, books and other games

Music player with headphones

Band-aids

Sports gear - tennis racket, baseball glove, helmets or knee pads if the camp doesn't provide them

A protective cup for sporty boys

Stationery, pens and stamps so they can write home!
