Jon, Kate, and their eight offspring - Cara, Mady, Alexis, Hannah, Leah, Aaden, Collin, and Joel - are on the cover of the November issue of Good Housekeeping. We got a behind-the-scenes look at what it took to get the shots of the Gosselins in this week's episode of Jon and Kate Plus 8. During the First Months With Eight Children
KATE: “There were days I just wanted to cover my head with a pillow. But I knew my babies were counting on me, and I had to keep it together. I had to keep it together for Jon, who was falling apart - he’d been laid off when I was pregnant and was applying for every job under the sun.”

The Strain on Their Marriage
KATE: “But our marriage is going to go through many more years of fine-tuning. Right now it’s taking a beating, because we have a house full of children. People see us arguing, and they say ‘When will Kate and Jon split up?’ Well, never. He’s the only one who’s been by my side through all of this.”

Life Will Never Be Normal Again
KATE: “People come here and say, ‘I feel like I’m watching your show.’ That’s because this is our show. We will never feel normal again, TV show or not. Does anyone see a family with twins and sextuplets every day? No. It took me until the little kids were almost 2 to completely accept it.”

Parenting Eight Kids
KATE: “I’m trying to focus on the enjoyable moments, rather than keeping them clean every minute. You have to realize you’re setting the rules for life. With six, we have no room for error.”

KATE: “It’s hard to turn my brain off at night. When I choose Leah to take to the grocery store, and I don’t know when I can tell the rest of them when their chances will be, that’s guilt.”

KATE: “Mady will come in and close the toilet lid and sit there and talk to me while I’m in the shower. I like to hear what they have to say. For me, that’s more like normal parenting.”

When They’re All Grown Up
JON: “I suddenly realized that I’m going to have five son-in-laws.”

KATE: “I have very vivid dreams of our family in the future - a house full of love, laughter, and lots of grandkids to spoil. I’m already worried about that empty-nest syndrome. Just as they came in a big group and overwhelmed us, they will likely leave in a big group, and the quiet will be even more deafening.”

The magazine, which also features an exclusive excerpt from the Gosselins' book, Multiple Blessings, hits newsstands next Tuesday, Oct. 14.

The Day the Cookie Crumbled

There are some magazines that define a generation. Good Housekeeping has been a long time friend of baby booming moms as the articles deem certain toys or household gadgets acceptable with their seal of approval. Parenting gives fabulous tips on breastfeeding, play dates and other mom dilemmas while Fit Pregnancy gets mothers-to-be ready for those same activities. When Cookie entered the baby and parenting category four years ago, savvy and hip mums signed up for the Condé Nast rag expecting the best of the best motherhood coverage. And for the most part, that's what they got.

The bright publication offers mums a rainbow of treats from interviews with pop culture's famous mothers to the trendtotting looks of tomorrow and vacation hot spots. Unfortunately the magazine has seen better days and will be closing its doors along with some other Condé staples. The absence of the digest will leave many a mom wondering where to turn for contemporary and chic bebe products and tips. Since Cookie clearly won't be the title to carry the Gen-Moms through motherhood, which publication will you turn to?

Moms are so busy this time of year, the last thing they have time to do is make a wish list. Laundry Duty: She's up to her elbows in suds, so take a load (or five) off her shoulders and offer to do the laundry for a day. While you rinse and fold, mama gets a lil rest.

The Breakfast Club for Fathers

Women have their Mommy friends, but what about dads? Fathers may be taking a bigger role in raising their offspring, but many are still given the once over by mom cliques at the playground. One group of work-from-home dads in New York started a get together on their own terms - far from the sandbox and without tots in tow.

The men whose children attend P.S. 234 have formed a breakfast club and the characters don't even slightly resemble Emilio Estevez and Molly Ringwald. The New York Times reported that these men - a photographer, a sculptor, a screenwriter - who have been breaking toast over eggs and bacon for the past four years have nannies, housekeepers and high powered wives. The gathering is a way for the men to chat about current issues, cars and kids. It said:

But the dads have no compunction about taking a leisurely break from diapering and spending some of the family’s hard-earned money in the process. “All these fathers are actually really good fathers,” said Mr. Katz, who recently oversaw the birth of his fourth son (and made it to breakfast with the guys 14 hours later). “We do more parenting than our type-A wives and feel we’re justified.”
