What Color Eyes Does Your Child Have?

Many newborns enter the world with blue eyes and they often quickly change into a darker shade or a different color all together. As eye color tends to settle in around six months, they are still apt to change as the melanin continues to develop.

If you look around a room, chances are over 50 percent of the people have brown eyes while blue and green will make up the rest. I'm curious to know how many of you have brown, green, blue, or other-eyed babes.

Many newborns enter the world with dark blue eyes. As the pigment starts to develop, the color starts to change. Brown eyes dominate my family tree while blue eyes have a strong presence in my husband's. My daughter's eyes have been hazel for a while now, but I am waiting for them to turn brown.

Eyes are never guaranteed to stay the same color, but at what age did your child's eye color become clear?

Mom-Me Time: Pick Up a Copy of The Help

If mama's got a few minutes to herself and is looking for something that will take her mind to another world, she needs not look further than this gold and purple hardback book. The Help ($12) is a quick read that will steal her attention and her affection and leave her wanting more. Kathryn Stockett's first novel, the book about the relationships between mothers and the women that help them (nannies in particular) will have mommy laughing out loud, tearing up in the eyes, dog-earring pages with special passages and thinking about how she relates to some of the closest people in her life.

Just pages into the lengthy text and I was hooked. Unlike any book I've read in recent times, the characters in these pages immediately come to life and fully color the imagination. You can picture their hair, dream up their clothes and hear their voices like they're sitting on the bus right next to you. While they may be fictional muses, I wish I could meet them, thank them, reprimand them and have a tall glass of sweetened iced tea with them. Centered around the lives of three caretakers, the hired "help" who tend to high society's children may occasionally be called "mama" as they often forge a closer bond with the child than his own mother. And while some women may have their best friends to rely on, the housekeeper frequently knows and cares more than her "best" friends -the phrase "dirty laundry" having a double meaning when it comes to life behind closed doors. In the end, it is a story about women taking extraordinary measures to right some wrongs, even if it means risking it all. Of all the lessons to be learned from this rich novel, the golden rule speaks loudest - "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." Maybe that's why she wrapped it in a glowing cover.

Before this goes to the theaters, which it surely will, buy it, read it and gift it to everyone you know. It will not disappoint.

The Gifted Child: Gifts For a Newborn Baby

The best holiday present of all is a newborn baby! While you can't go out and buy a baby, you can buy things to doll them up in and entertainment tools to light up their wee eyes. Spoil babies rotten with some of these wooden treats, musical toys, and sassy threads. Baby may not get what's going on, but he'll love the attention being paid to him.

If you like it then you should put a name on it. Make it known that he is one unique child by giving him a present with his moniker scrawled across it. A baseball bat, a train, or a fuzzy topper will make for precious gifts with extra meaning. Snugglers will appreciate a cuddly blanket for a posh snooze in the crib while snowbound babes will enjoy a sled made just for them.

Sick Days Are Not For Moms

Do moms ever have downtime - even when they are sick? That's what a pregnant colleague wondered when her son recently came down with an ear infection and a nasty case of pink eye. She rented him movies, set up art projects, and occupied her tot to keep him happy. At the same time, she was diligent about keeping her hands washed, the toys sanitized, and the pillowcases clean.

After a night of trying to comfort the preschooler to sleep, she woke up with crusty eyes and realized that the pesky germs must have passed through his falling tears. Instead of staying in bed and watching Lifetime movies all day like she wanted to, her "sick day" consisted of entertaining her on-the-mend son and having to ignore her own condition.

This lil knight in shining armor may not be ready to slay dragons or ward off evil in the forest but he's sure to steal some hearts in his dapper costume. LisaM's thumbsucking toddler has certainly stolen our hearts with his sweet puppy dog eyes. Princesses better be on the lookout for this handsome young man!
