If there is one "boy" who has captured my daughter's heart, it is Thomas the Tank Engine. For whatever reason, most children fawn over the blue train and his entourage of carts. Though they lack much animation, the steely pals have made quite a name for themselves.

In preparing a friend of mine for her first hospital childbirth experience, I warned her of the entourage that typically barrages a new mother — nurses in and out checking bleeding and other bodily fluids, taking temperatures, administering pain relief pills, and monitoring baby. In between the medical staff's necessary and appreciated visits, I was surprised by the other people who came a-knockin' on my door. When it wasn't the nurses, it was the birth certificate people, official hospital baby photographer, housekeeping, room service, and other visitors peeping in.

The other day I wrote about the five rude things mothers do — most of which are unintentional and come with having kids and very hectic lives. Chic moms at the playground want to be the trendsetters of baby paraphernalia. You can spot them — the Orbit pushing, latte sipping, couture wearing mamas. They try all of the latest, but not always greatest, baby products and then report back to their entourage on the "must haves" and "steer clears."

Two careers, two kids and one heck of a long commute! To film Lipstick Jungle, Brooke Shields relocated to the Big Apple with her daughters, Rowan, 4, and Grier, 2, but her hubby, Chris Henchy stayed back in Los Angeles.
As an executive producer on Entourage, his work is on the West Coast so Brooke has come up with some creative ways to manage television making and mothering like having her nanny bring her girls down to meet her.

Tricycles may not be an official license to drive, but they are certainly a sign of independence as little ones pedal down the sidewalk all on their lonesome. Saddle your sweet pea up in a charming retro ride that will evoke memories of T–birds, soda fountains, and 10-cent movies.
Simple: The timeless look of a $120 simple retro pink tricycle from Target is sure to be a crowd pleaser as your tyke trolls down the path.
