Kate Gosselin and Kelly Preston Featured at California Governor's Conference For Women

It will be a meeting of the motherly minds in Long Beach. California's first lady, Maria Shriver, is putting together quite the mom panel - guests include everyone from Kate Gosselin to Kelly Preston - for her California Governor's Conference for Women in October. It was announced today that actress Kelly Preston who suffered the loss of her 16-year-old son, Jett, in January would sit alongside Elizabeth Edwards on a grief and resilience panel. This will be Preston's first public appearance since the child's passing.

Kate Gosselin, best known as TLC's mom of multiples and star of Jon and Kate Plus 8, will also be participating in the national forum that encourages women to be architects of change. The full list of speakers will be announced next week, but it is said to include quite a few famous mamas - Caroline Kennedy, Madeleine Albright and Annie Leibovitz.

Like many wives, Elizabeth Edwards made a life with her husband, John. The couple had four children and lost their eldest son to a tragic car accident. Elizabeth supported John on two presidential campaign tickets and even as she battled cancer. All she asked of him was to be faithful. Today on Oprah Elizabeth addresses the rumors about John's alleged love child and says she doesn't know if the baby is his as it does not look like her offspring. Elizabeth Edwards Creates an Image of John for Their Children

Fighting stage four breast cancer, Elizabeth Edwards made her first public appearance since the truth about her husband's affair hit mainstream news. Concerning the father of her children, the mother of three - Cate, 26, Emma Claire, 10, and Jack, 8 - made a powerful statement. She said:

Edwards added that she hopes her children will have an image of their father as "an advocate for poverty, not for this current picture of him, to be the one they carry with them ... I need to create the picture for them that I want them to have."

What's Your Take on "Family Man" John Edwards?

John Edwards portrayed himself as such a family man that when the news broke that he confessed to the affair and had lied as a Presidential candidate, I was more disturbed that he had cheated on his wife and put his children in an such an uncomfortable situation. Elizabeth campaigned for him even while fighting cancer. And, beyond all that the couple lost their eldest son, Wade, to a car accident in 1996.

Lil's Top Three Favorite New Mom Shows!

After hearing all the hype about the networks' most anticipated sitcoms and dramas that centered around matriarchs, we tuned in and then narrowed down the choices to our top three must sees. Second Runnerup: The Middle
Why we like it: Patricia Heaton is back on the small screen as Frankie Heck, a mom of three who has more than her share of realistic haggard-mom moments.
Why we love it: While all of the characters are lovable, Brick's creepy habits, from talking in a low voice to "soothe" himself to copping feels on his teacher, make him the center of attention. Just when a viewer's skin begins to crawl, the youngster tells his mom that she's his hero, and it's impossible not to melt.

First Runnerup: The Good Wife
Why we like it: We've all wondered why real-life women like Elizabeth Edwards and Silda Spitzer stood by their men despite being humiliated. Julianna Margulies's character, Alicia Florrick, give us a better understanding.
Why we love it: Alicia is both a strong and sympathetic woman. While her circumstance is one most women hope to never find themselves in, Alicia is someone we all can relate to, because despite the enormity of some of her issues, she also deals with the everyday stuff like protecting her children from the media, enduring an overbearing mother-in-law, and competing with co-workers half her age at the office.

Best New Mom Show: Modern Family
Why we like it: The sitcom showcases three related families: a "traditional" couple raising three tween and teenagers, December/May newlyweds who have a young son, and gay partners with an adopted baby girl.
Why we love it: The show had us in stitches through its entirety. Each family has been so carefully crafted that there's no clear favorite. And, in all of the hilarity, there are sentimental moments interspersed that hit viewers in their heartstrings. Rating:

The Good Wife Is a Must Watch for Mothers

To say that Alicia Florrick from CBS's new show is The Good Wife is an understatement. After her politician husband Peter (Chris Noth) is embroiled in a sex scandal, she publicly appears with him. We've all wondered why real-life women like Elizabeth Edwards and Silda Spitzer stood by their men despite being humiliated. In Tuesday's episode, Alicia explains how she could never understand their behavior until she was in the situation. She says:

"How can you allow yourself to be used like that? And, then it happened and I was . . . unprepared."

Julianna Margulies is remarkable in her role as the wronged wife and former lawyer who returns to work after a long hiatus to become the family breadwinner during her husband's incarceration. To see why I think the show is a must watch for mothers, read more.

While the character's circumstance is one most women hope to never find themselves in, Alicia is someone we all can relate to because despite the enormity of some of her issues, she also deals with the everyday stuff like protecting her children from the media, enduring an overbearing mother-in-law, and competing with co-workers half her age at the office. The character has been crafted so it's impossible not to sympathize with and respect her. Who could forget the poignant opening scene where she slaps Peter after exiting the press conference? I'm anxious to see how the show unfolds and consider it a must see for mothers this Fall. What's your opinion?

Stand by Your Man or Cry Me a River?

Tammy Wynette's classic song "Stand by Your Man" may be the traditional tune, but it seems some family women are not up to the task, especially when their very public husbands cheat. Justin Timberlake's "Cry Me a River" may be more suited for wronged wives like Jenna Sanford. The mother of four is marching to the beat of a different drummer than some of her famous peers like Silda Spitzer and Hillary Clinton. Elizabeth Edwards even said she did not want her children to remember the scandalous image of her husband, John, so she helped to "create the picture for them that I want them to have."

After disappearing, Governor Mark Sanford was discovered in an Atlanta airport and shortly thereafter admitted to and apologized for an extramarital affair with an Argentinian woman. For the first time in a while, a pearl-adorned wife was not there to watch her husband weep his way through a press conference. Perhaps the leaked emails between the governor and his mistress were too damning for her to make an appearance. Though they are currently separated, Jenna Sanford issued a public statement regarding their situation and how it affects their children. To see what she said, read more. South Carolina's first lady said:

"I would like to start by saying I love my husband and I believe I have put forth every effort possible to be the best wife I can be during our almost twenty years of marriage . . . Instead, the greatest legacy I will leave in this world is the character of the children I, or we, leave behind. It is for that reason that I deeply regret the recent actions of my husband Mark, and their potential damage to our children."

It sounds like this mother is leaving Mark's image up to his actions instead of sheltering their children from the truth. Where would you find yourself in such a predicament?

John Edwards Talks to Tyra About Losing Son
