But for moms and dads that want to save money and have their wee ones get more mileage out of their treat sacks, use pillowcases. They hold more trinkets and sweets than the other options and can be slipped under your tot's head to lull them to sleep.

Toddlers love projects so enlist your lil ones help in wrapping each individually wrapped organic sucker in a sheet of recyclable tissue. Tie it off just under the candy with a piece of string, ribbon, twine or raffia found around the house. Then have your child use a black pen to decorate the flying friends faces with good or ghastly expressions.

For a clever way to carry the treats to a school party or to line them up for trick-or-treaters, have your youngster paint the upside down empty tissue box with some eco-friendly paint. After drying it overnight, puncture small holes in the top and insert the ghosts.

Lil Tip: Eggcellent Use of Egg Cartons

Egg cartons are good for more than just safely carting raw eggs home. As you prepare your Halloween costumes, consider including them in your design as ears, noses, and other crafty costume parts.

Use one pod and paint it pink with two black slits and attach pink ribbon to tie it around the face for a pig's nose.
Paint two of them black and hot glue them on a headband for a pair of cat ears.
Paint them yellow and wrap yourself up in green for a cute "corn on the cob" get up.
Cut out two side-by-side pods and attach pipe cleaners for a pair of goggles or glasses - punch out the bottom so your wee one can see of course!

The possibilities are endless so think before you toss that handy tray into your recycle bin!

ECOWEEN: Don't Just Go Green, Make Green Your Theme

We've gone green for Halloween here on lilsugar, which means we are bringing you tricks and treats for celebrating the favorite holiday while encouraging children to make, swap and reuse their costumes. These costumes aren't just made with eco products, but they highlight the recycle, reduce and reuse theme and are great conversation starters for budding conversationalists.

Crush It in a Blue Box - Suit your sweet one up in a familiar blue box full of recyclable items. Their neighborhood buddies will find the costume endearing and your wee one might be able to impart wisdom on a few fellow trick-or-treaters along the way.
Turning Paper Back to Timber - Use some gifts from Mother Nature along with some recyclable items to craft a costume that pays homage to trees. It's the least we can do to pay them back for all of the beauty they provide.
Compostable Child - Many school cafeterias now require children to throw their used napkins and leftover food in the big green bins as the waste can be better used to save our environment. A simple costume to assemble, your tot won't mind spreading the word about the benefits of composting as she trick-or-treats.
