Generations of my family members have been born in hospitals so when I got pregnant with my first two children, I felt conventional medicine was my only option though I briefly entertained the idea of a water birth with my daughter. But, now with baby number three set to arrive in late September, I want to make my last delivery an experience to remember so I've decided to freebirth my baby at home.
My husband was shocked when I first ran the plan by him as I've long been an advocate of babies making their debut in the close proximity of a NICU — especially after a second scare with my son not breathing when he arrived.

Mommy Dearest,
My baby is due this month, just a few days after the full moon. But I've heard that the full moon could cause me to go into labor. Should I tell my mom to fly in a little early?

People who enjoy doing the horizontal mambo without protection often find themselves entering parenthood. So it goes without saying that those same couples like to return the activity once baby arrives. Expectant mothers who fear the demise of their sex lives due to a vaginal delivery are choosing to have c-sections with the hopes that damages and pain are kept to a minimum.

While some expectant mamas go the natural route opting for drug-free births, others enter labor and delivery with the intention to ease pain as early as possible. In either case, it is best to know your pain relief options before entering the hospital, as even the best laid plans can fall by the wayside as labor progresses and the situations change.
There are several different forms of pain relief used by doctors depending on your situation.

Mommy Dearest,
My younger sister recently asked if I would like to attend her first baby's delivery next month. While I appreciate the invitation and can't wait to meet my nephew, I don't think I can actually stomach watching him be born because I'm squeamish around blood. I do not have any kids of my own, but plan to have some someday.

When a woman gives birth in the movies, the doctor stands at her pelvis ready to guide the baby into his arms and there is nary an electronic or piece of equipment in sight. In real life, the labor and delivery room is filled with monitors and machines ready to go at a moment's notice.
Take our quiz and see just how familiar you are with these tools of the delivery trade.

A due date is just an estimation of when a baby is expected to arrive, but most doctors will say that a wee one's debut is not set in stone. For various reasons from mama's health to fluid levels and the positioning of the babe to convenience, deliveries are sometimes scheduled. Did your doctor pencil you in prior to your due date?

I understood the definition of awkward in the delivery room when my son was halfway out and the doctor asked if I wanted to rest.
How does a mother take a break when her babe is stuck between the real world and the womb?
I pushed and delivered our amazing lil boy — all 9 pounds, 4 and a half ounces and nearly 23 inches of him.

Some women want their entire family to experience the miracle of their child's birth from the hospital room, while others would prefer relatives sit it out in the waiting room. Regardless of how you feel, as the mama-to-be the decision is all yours. If you're not having a c-section, you can typically have whoever you want in the labor and delivery room with you.

Mommy Dearest,
My boyfriend and I have had a tumultuous relationship while I have been pregnant with his baby. As a firsttime mom, I want to avoid any hospital drama during delivery. I want to do it on my own with my doctor.
