Supersize This: Cole Haan Loafers

I recently ran into Cole Haan to pick up a pair of black patent wedges that were to become my Fall shoe of choice when the cutest lil thing caught my eye. In honor of their 80th anniversary, the company has come out with a line of crib shoe penny loafers ($50). The four designs are perfectly suited for prepsters in the making with classic black and brown versions, as well as red or brown suede ones too. Securing these as my new obsession are the soles of the shoes that are imprinted with "Pennies from Heaven."

We're in luck though - we don't just have to dream about the company supersizing these lil darlings, the crib shoe collection is a shrunken version of Cole Haan's classic shoes. So the originals are available in mommy sizes.

Over the Top Platinum Babies Are Hitting WEtv

Think Sweet Sixteen for fetuses. Mothers who are used to having everything their hearts desire now want to pass that diva quality onto their babes-to-be. WEtv's new show, Platinum Babies, focuses on expectant ladies who have hired Hot Moms Club co-founder Jessica Denay and other planning experts to deck out their nurseries and throw the poshest baby showers any mum has ever seen. At a time where many moms are pinching pennies, others are basking in Louis Vuitton diaper bags, Gucci crib shoes, infant diamond studded earrings and $40K customized rooms. It's a shock to the system for budget restricted mums like myself but it gave me some pretty good ideas for DIY projects at my own home. It might just become my Friday night guilty pleasure. My daughter doesn't have a swank pair of custom-made high-heeled slippers like Suri Cruise, but she was gifted a bag of plastic princess ones a few years ago. Though my girl only wore them around the house to play dress up, her feet are not strangers to an arch. While shopping for dress shoes at Nordstrom, there were several wedge and tiny kitten-heel styles available in her size! Even my son has managed to tear down our hall in a pair of pumps he found in my closet. Sure, some parents encourage their tots to wear fabulous footwear starting with sassy crib heels, but most kiddos are just drawn to trying on (and wobbling around) in their mama's shoes. Have your tots strutted in shoes that gave them an extra inch or two?

Traveling Sans Babies Has Its Advantages

Look ma, no kids! Last weekend, mama got a break from pureed baby food, stinky diapers and bath time duty. The grandparents came to the rescue and watched my wee ones as I took off on a beach adventure with my hubby. While I missed the lil ones, there were certainly plenty of perks traveling as a childless passenger that I will never take for granted again.

Packing: For starters, instead of washing, folding and packing clothes for three people, I just tossed my clothes in a bag. Usually I skimp on my own wardrobe to ensure enough room for diapers and pajamas. This time, I packed extra dresses, a sun hat, more than enough shoes, and two, yes two, books!

Getting Ready: When the alarm went off, I showered, kissed the tots goodbye and walked out of the house. There was no race against the clock to clean, dress and buckle everyone. Also left behind? Prepared bottles, sliced fruit, crackers and a bag full of cartoon DVDs.

Getting There: When we pulled into the long-term parking lot, my husband and I jumped out of the car, grabbed the suitcases and ran to the shuttle. With kids, mama's got to unleash the car seats, strollers, and added baggage.

Security: Getting through security as an adult traveler is a breeze. It's as easy as taking off the shoes, putting the laptop in the scanner and walking through the detector. Add a toddler or two to the mix and mommy's tossing liquids left and right, de-robing wee ones, shoving car seats on X-ray machines and then putting it all back together again.

Flying: Ahhh... mum is seated, got her best book in her lap and her ear buds plugged in tight. She may even get to enjoy a glass of wine and a movie. If she's got baby with her, she's got someone tugging on her shirt, begging for a story, snack or a movie. Let's not even discuss diaper changing in the lavatory and keeping a screaming child quiet while other passengers glare at her.

Now that I sound like an ungrateful mother, let me tell you all the ways I missed my children terribly before I even left the house. The night before I left my babies with my parents, I took loads of pictures of them so I could stare at them on my camera during my trip. I also had to cuddle and love them to pieces. I snuck into my daughter's bed and cradled her before I finally crept into my own bed. I would have jumped in my son's crib if I didn't think it would wake him up. When I arrived at the airport, I ogled other tiny travelers wishing mine were with us. And, at the risk of sounding pathetic, I'll admit that I listened to the Dragon Tales soundtrack on my iPod because it made me feel closer to them. In the end, they had a terrific time with my parents and I'm 100 percent positive I am a better mother after a reinvigorating relaxing trip.

Wee Are the World: Newborns in Need

Baby showers are wonderful events, but they often result in a few gifts that parents will never use. Instead of passing them off to friends who are already overwhelmed with baby gear, consider donating them to Newborns in Need. Established in 1992, "Newborns in Need, Inc. (NIN) is a 501(c)3 charity organized to take care of sick and needy babies and their families; and in cases of crisis, to help where help is needed."

Clearly making a difference for wee ones in this world, NIN donated 557,970 baby items in 2007. The charity requests people to provide home-sewn goods for babies in need, or provide sewing supplies so volunteers can turn them into blankets, bibs, or other necessary items. First Furious Fit

They say there's a first for everything. And the other day it was my daughter's first furious fit.

Early in the day, she enjoyed breakfast followed with a hardy nap. When she woke from it, she was more like a crazed animal than my sweet daughter.

Straight out of the crib, my bookworm babe repeatedly said, "Book!" so I gave her a book. She tossed it across the room and then started whaling, "Boooooooook!" Confused, I kept trying to hand her book after book.

Then, I sat her on my lap and attempted to read her favorite story. She finally calmed down a bit. Thinking the battle was over, I tried to finish dressing her. But, just as soon as the first sock went on, the tears and wails returned - only this round was worse.

Snot was draining as much as her crocodile tears. I took her to my bed in an attempt to lie down and read another book to her. She arched, screamed and writhed around until I finally gave up. Despite her saddened red face, I struggled to put socks and shoes on her tiny feet.

As soon as that task was complete, I took her outside for a walk, which always makes her happy. The fresh air and sunshine were just what the doctor ordered.

Peace was restored – eyes were dry and she was smiling from ear to ear.

I have my suspicions, but will never know what set her off.
