The hospital trip is a bit different when you're having a scheduled delivery. With 29 percent of all American births coming via c-section, many mamas to be know they are going in for surgery. Whether the cesarean was deemed necessary for medical reasons or if the mama-to-be insisted on it, women who know they will be undergoing the knife need to pack a little differently than those delivering vaginally. Load up your suitcase with clothing and toiletries to get through the three to five days they will be in the hospital and don't forget to toss in these nine items! Source

Baby Born Two Days After Mother Declared Brain Dead

Baby Aya's (meaning miracle) birth is nothing short of one. The two-pound infant was born at 25 weeks, just two days after her mother, a former British figure skater, was declared brain dead as a result of a brain hemorrhage. Though she had appeared to be in perfect health, the mom-to-be, Jayne Soliman, suffered the massive attack as a result of an undetected brain tumor. The baby was born via c-section. Jayne's husband, Mahmoud Soliman, was forced to deal with the tragic and bittersweet turn of events. He said:

“It was Jayne's one true wish to be a mum. She would have been a great mum,” Mahmoud Soliman said in a statement to the media. “In the space of 48 hours I have experienced joy at the birth of my child and endured torment over losing my wonderful wife.”

Would You Consider a VBAC?

Our parents' generation believed that once you had a c-section, all subsequent births would happen the same way. Today, many women who delivered prior babies via cesarean are considered candidates for Vaginal Birth After C-Section, or VBAC. About 60-80 percent of women who try VBAC are successful, but the rate of women willing to try is falling every year.

Many women who give birth vaginally are blind to the procedures, pain and recovery that often accompanies a c-section delivery. As I approach my due date, I am trying to educate myself on the operation as I might very well need one the second time around.

Even Victoria Beckham May Have Her Limitations

Birthing methods are a hotly debated topic. Some women want to welcome their children into the world at home in their bathtubs while others can't wait to pick a date for a scheduled c–section. To each their own but cesareans do come with some limitations. Depending on circumstances, there are doctors that advise their patients not to have more than three children via c–section. However, some physicians say it is situational.

I know one mother who had all SIX of her children under the knife with no problems! Reports claim Victoria Beckham (pictured right while pregnant with Romeo in 2002) is ready for her fourth child though her three previous c–sections might keep her a mother to three.

Would you risk having a fourth child if your doctor had a limit of three c–sections per patient?
