When Did You Stop Swaddling?

Snug as a bug in a rug. That's how many mamas describe their newborns once they are swaddled up tightly in a blanket. New moms work hard to perfect their swaddling technique, watching the maternity ward nurses like hawks and testing out various sizes and shapes of blankets before finding the perfect one.

While some lil Houdinis find a way to break out of any type of wrapping, many find comfort in the warmth and security the carefully wrapped blankets provide. But, there comes a point where the lil ones start moving around too much to remain in the swaddle, and their parents must make the transition to swaddle-free sleep. Doctors recommend weaning a baby from her wrappings around the four-month mark (or when she starts to roll over) for safety reasons, but many parents keep up the practice in order to maintain a restful night's sleep (for both the parents and the baby).

Keep Those Wee Teeth Healthy This Halloween

Sure kids adore the costume aspect of Halloween but the number one reason why wee ones look forward to the ghoulish holiday? The hunt for candy. Chocolate bars, candy corn, and bags of Skittles can make a youngster hopelessly in love with sugar but leave their pearly whites in pain. Thanks to Dr. Sherri Worth, a dentist to the stars and mother of three, we have some helpful tips to offer parents on how to protect those tiny chompers and combat cavities.

Rinse and Repeat: So simple…RINSE right after the candy fest. Toss the kids some water bottles and have them drink up while watching that scary movie before bed. Getting the initial sugar rinsed out before the candy has time to settle on to the surface of the tooth is key.
Do It For Them: I always brush and floss my kids’ teeth the night before Halloween. I tell them that there are so many “sugar bugs” on Halloween that I need to get them out.

Tool Time: Buy them a new toothbrush and let them use it the first time on Halloween night. They will spend more time on their teeth because it is new and special.
Keep It in the Kitchen: No candy after the teeth are brushed at night – we all know they love to keep their candy with them (taking it to bed) – keep it in the kitchen.
Fill ‘Em Up!: Have a good healthy dinner before trick-or-treating, so that they will not have a dinner of candy.

The Gosselin Girls Go to Jonas Brothers Concert

The Gosselin girls are growing up! Kate took her twin daughters, Cara and Mady, 8, and a friend to see the Jonas Brothers concert at the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia last night. The oldest kids of Jon and Kate's 8 were decked out in age appropriate outfits that didn't match. While Jon has taken a liking to Ed Hardy apparel, Kate unleashed a more sassy look wearing dark dungarees, a hot pink tank, strappy sandals and shades. No word on whether the mom and daughters rocked out to Love Bug, but it looks like they had a fun girls' night out!
