Sugarbaby: Baby Beau

Our Sugarbaby this week is a wee lil one from New York City. This munchkin of a baby is learning how to stay warm in the Big Apple.

Baby Beau entered this world just a little over one month ago. Her parents were thrilled to welcome her – the best Christmas gift they have ever had. Pretty in pink, the tiny fashionista she already has some favorite designers – "Beau"berry tops the list.

She loves to eat, sleep and poop. Of course, her beverage of choice is milk. And, she's already a beach babe – retreating to the coast for weekend jaunts. Life is pretty good for lil Beau since she has Mommy and Daddy wrapped around her itty bitty pink fingers. But they aren't her only fans.

Aside from her human family doting on her, she has two dogs that are very interested in the little doll. If they had their druthers, they'd be licking and pouncing around the tiny tot day and night.

We are happy for these glowing parents and hope to see more of Baby Beau in our Sugarbabies group.

Is It Important For Parents to Share Same Last Name as Child?

In modern times, it is not surprising for mamas to keep their maiden names. In the case that the parents are happily together, many moms and pops give their child the father's last name. If, however, there was a less than amicable split before the birth, many mothers choose to label the baby with her own family moniker. Bridget Moynahan is one mama who thought her baby boy should be known under her name instead of her ex-beau, Tom Brady. Others, especially married ladies, like Heidi Klum take their man's name for themselves and pass it on to their offspring so that the whole brood shares one title. You Know You're a Mother When: Date Night Preparation

Remember when a "date" used to get a woman all hot and bothered? Before hitting the town, she'd take a long shower, deep condition her hair and shave her legs. Maybe even blow out her hair and flat iron it for a sleek look. After lotioning up and spritzing herself with her favorite perfume, she'd apply makeup like the MAC artist showed her at the mall. Then she'd slip into her tightest pair of denims and a slim fitting top that showed off her best curves. When she walked out the door with her man, she felt like a million bucks.

Fast forward three years and that same dolled up babe has got a different idea for "date" night. Now a mother to an infant, she only has time to strip out of her baby food splatted tee and hop in the shower for a quick rinse. After jumping out of her 60-second blast, she realizes she forgot to shave her pits, which haven't seen the likes of a razor in days. A quick application of soap to the underarms, a swift blade down the flesh and she's ready for deodorant and her wet pony tail. She grabs a comfortable pair of leggings and a billowy blouse that reveals nothing of her muffin top or hairy legs. She slaps on a bit of lip gloss and reaches for her bag, which doubles as a diaper bag and rushes to open the door for the babysitter. Not wanting to waste a second of her precious date night time, she and her man head to their favorite restaurant only now she feels like two million bucks with her beau in tow and her wee one sleeping soundly at home.

When Is a Name Off Limits?

I'm going to be bold and assume that Bronx Mowgli was not on Jessica Simpson's short list of names for her future children. I'll also go out on a limb and speculate that Angelina and Brad won't call a hypothetical seventh child Jennifer. But would it be inappropriate for Courteney Cox and David Arquette to have a son and name the baby Brad? It's one thing to rule out your own ex when it comes to naming a baby, but what about a best friend's old beau? Parents trying to choose a name for their newest family member often cross names off a list due to past relationships, tainted associations, or fear of namenapping. While there seem to be a few general rules that parents-to-be should stick to when brainstorming baby names, many pay no attention and use the moniker they like best regardless of their peers' feelings or input.

Mary Lynn Rajskub's Lil Valentine Walks Her Down the Aisle

Best known as Chloe O'Brian on 24, actress Mary Lynn Rajskub walked down the aisle to marry her beau Matthew Rolph over the weekend. The actress didn't have her father walk her down the red carpet. Instead, the couple's lil one-year-old son, Valentine, ushered her to the altar as Elvis's "A Little Less Conversation" played in the background! The family stood together for a Las Vegas-style ceremony as 20 guests witnessed their marital moment. The Julie and Julia co-star told People:

We didn't know that getting married at a casino in Vegas with Elvis could be so romantic. . . . Our wedding was beautiful, spontaneous, and intimate. We are so excited to officially be husband and wife.

Though just a tiny tot, the wee cupid certainly played an integral part in pinning his parents together for a ceremonial event in Sin City.

Is Britney Spears Cleaning Up Her Image to Get Custody?

After agreeing to give ex-husband Kevin Federline custody of her kids, Britney Spears singled out Jenny McCarthy at a Generation Rescue event hosted by the former playmate-turned-author and her beau, Jim Carrey. While Jenny was a bit of a wild child back in the day, she's gained the respect and admiration of many as an advocate for autism. Since her son, Evan, 6, was diagnosed with the developmental disorder, she has used her celebrity to bring attention to it. Do you think Britney plans to clean up her own mommy image in order to get more custodial rights of her sons, Sean Preston, 2, and Jayden James, 1?

Planning Ahead for Your Fertility

I have a friend who has it all except for the one thing she really wants - a family.

Successful, beautiful, charming and sweet, it seems impossible that she hasn't met Mr. Right. Coming up on 34, she's concerned by the ticking of her biological clock.

Since she doesn't have a beau, she decided to test her eggs to see how many "good ones" are left. To see what she plans on doing, read more.

Depending on the outcome of her test, she will do one of two things. If satisfied with her fertility results, she will continue her search for the "one." If her doctor believes her fertility is dwindling, she is ready to have a baby, even if it means being a single parent.

Hormone tests that can evaluate a woman's fertility have been around for years. According to a story in the Chicago Tribune:

A test new to the market called Plan Ahead, measures three hormones closely associated with the number of eggs in women's ovaries: follicle stimulating hormone, which stimulates egg development; anti-mullerian hormone, produced by cells surrounding immature eggs; and inhibin B, a protein produced by egg follicles.

The hormone tests aren't new; the innovation is a mathematical formula that analyzes results from the tests and other factors, such as age and estrogen levels, to derive a score for a woman's ovarian reserve.

Not surprisingly, Plan Ahead has its critics. Some believe it can give women false hope or toss them a safety net that is in fact, not safe as fertility is never guaranteed.

To the naysayers, Dr. Alan Penzias of the Boston IVF fertility clinic said:

The combination of these three tests is more powerful predictively than any individual test on its own, and we think the results are helpful.

Plan Ahead costs $350 and is only available in 13 states. The test is yet to be approved by the FDA.

As I get older, I see more of my girlfriends pressured by their biological clocks. Somehow we went from being carefree to counting eggs.

Jenny McCarthy Speaks Out on Autism with Larry King

Last night Larry King Live helped highlight National Autism Awareness Day by inviting actress and author Jenny McCarthy to a panel about autism with four well–known doctors. As the mother of an autistic son, Jenny has become a spokesperson for the disorder, which affects one in every 150 children. The debate on the cause of autism often becomes deeply personal and heated and last night's show was no exception.

Careful not to point fingers at vaccinations as the sole cause of autism, the blond bombshell emphatically stated that she, along with many others, are anti–toxin and anti–schedule. In 1983, children were given 10 vaccinations by age five. Now, children receive up to 36 by age six.

Dr. Harvey Karp and Dr. David Tayloe (President-elect of the American Academy of Pediatrics) appeared on the panel where they agreed more research is needed to find the causes of the disorder but argued that vaccinations do more good than harm. When Jenny asked Dr. Tayloe why there has been such a dramatic increase in how many shots are given in the past couple decades, he said:

Because we've been able to develop ways to vaccinate children to prevent pain and suffering.

Sitting next to and supporting Jenny, Dr. Jay Gordon said they are not anti–vaccine. They just believe in changing the schedule of vaccinations, removing toxins from the shots, and reducing the number of shots given at such a young age.

In Jenny's newest book, Louder Than Words: A Mother's Journey in Healing Autism, the autism spokeswoman gives parents hope on how she and her son have trekked down the road of recovery to a much happier and healthier place.

On June 4, 2008, Jenny and beau Jim Carrey are organizing a march in Washington, D.C. where they are encouraging anyone and everyone to come out and support awareness for autism.

I don't know how I feel about vaccinations and a link to autism but I do believe growing awareness is key to finding a solution.
