Trendtotting: Giddy Giddy

I feel pretty, oh so pretty! Styling a wee one's tresses can be difficult, especially when your princess is particular about her accessories. Giddy Giddy makes the task easier with cheerful felt barrettes ($9) that most lil girls find delightful. Puppy lovers will fawn over the Fido clip while sugar tooth sweethearts may drool over the popsicle option. Once you've got the hair situation tamed, you can surprise your tot with an accompanying Giddy Giddy owl or elephant pouch ($30) to catch all of her fabulous new clips.

Lil Find: Days of the Week Hairclips

In the rush of a school morning, the less you have to think about, the more likely you are to get out the door on time. That's why I was so excited to find these adorable days-of-the-week barrettes ($60). The set comes with a variety of colors that are sure to match your daughter's Fall wardrobe.

The handmade clips are made of individually stitched pieces of felt with the clip sewn inside, so there is no glue to get stuck in your lil one's hair. With clips preassigned for each day of the week, that's one less argument you and your princess have as you try to make it to the schoolhouse on time.

Lil Find: Best Baby Clips

My daughter has a thick of platinum-blonde hair, but as an infant the baby-fine strands had a hard time holding on to decorative clips. And, there's nothing more annoying than having your lil darling decked out in a dress and being asked if she's a boy!

Then, I found these fool-proof barrettes by No Slippy Hair Clippy. The $6–$20 handmade bows are velvet lined with a magnetic clip that secures them to the hair shaft and won't do any damage if your tot tugs at them. Available in everyday and soirée styles all named for lil girls from Ava to Lola to Kennedy, you can find the perfect accessory for any outfit. And, this mom-owned company makes special varieties for holidays and birthdays.

Lil Tip: A Home For Barrettes

Have you got hair barrettes all over the house? Or do they disappear without explanation like socks in the laundry? I've got an easy solution for you.

Take a piece of ribbon and tie a pretty bow with it. Then, take another piece of ribbon, about a foot long and using a push pin, secure them both to the wall. Now you can clip all the barrettes on the ribbon in one assigned spot.

For the tot learning her letters, the personalized bows from Apple Blossom Bows ($9) may help aid letter recognition. The silver capital letters are sewn on one of more than three dozen grosgrain ribbons available in several shades and polka dot varieties.

On Jon and Kate Plus 8, she often talks about fighting stains or which shoes, jackets, tops, dresses and barrettes she prefers the children wear on outings. But, when it comes to the identifying shirts that the kids sport, it's Em Tanner Designs that covers the Gosselin bunch's backs. The Tennessee based business makes all kinds of personalized shirts ($30) like the ones numbered one though eight that our favorite tots wear on television.

What to Stow and What to Throw

It's so hard to part with your baby's first blanket, the bonnet they wore home from the hospital or their first pair of shoes, but it's even tougher to live with bags of their keepsakes stored in every nook and cranny of your place. As the mother of two, I don't have trouble tossing things into a giveaway bag. It keeps me sane and allows the goods to keep on giving. For those of you who feel the urge to keep every washcloth, burper and pair of ballet slippers, here are a few purging tips that help me choose what to lose.

Stow heirloom gifts and handmade items. Things that people took the time to make should be cherished.

Stow short term items that you will need for another baby - receiving blankets, onesies, snapsuits.

Stow big ticket item toys like your swing, papasan chair, baby carrier and jumper.

Stow timeless, classic outfits that can be worn by siblings and/or future generations.

Stow a handful of sentimental items - the stuffed animal your child slept with, the first barrette that held her hair, the lil suit from his first photoshoot.

Stow books - kids love to read the same stories over and over.

<Stow wooden toys - they are timeless.

To see what to throw, read more.

Throw trendy clothing

Throw child specific clothing. If your daughter loved all things ladybugs, it doesn't mean your next lil girl will.

Throw multiples - if you have three identical toy boats, share the wealth with those in need.

Throw battery operated and talking toys that sporadically turn on while in storage.

Throw bedding if you plan on buying a different motif for each baby.

Source

Trendtotting: Ribbies Hair Clips

Though my daughter was dressed in pink duds and floral prints for the first 18 months of her life, people would stop and say, "Oh, HE is so cute!" I thanked them for the compliment and wondered how they didn't notice her frilly get-ups. Desperate to put bows in her hair, none were capable of pulling back the few wisps she had on her nearly bald head.

But, now a couple more strands of hair were all we needed for Ribbies. These lightweight clippies have a foam grip to help keep the hair in place without slipping or causing a tot the pain that often accompanies metal barrettes. Good luck trying to pick just one pair of the ribbon adorned clips - they are available in 78 cheery grosgrain varieties.

Lil Find: Cupcake Hairclips

Hair clips for little girls are darn cute these days. I remember having long ribbon ones that my mom made for me when I was little. I loved them and wish I knew how to make them myself. Perhaps, I'll find out over the holidays and share that with you on my next Kidoodles.

Until then, I stumbled upon these precious cupcake barrettes for only $4 a pop. They measure about two inches across and can be customized with a "no slip grip" to help with fine hair. Your own lil cupcake will love them so much she'll be begging, "Mommy, please? With a cherry on top?"
