Expectant Mamas Can Fly High Without Worry

Flying the friendly skies just got a bit less burdensome for expectant women. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists has revised its recommendations regarding pregnancy and travel by air, deeming it safe for women who are not considered high-risk. According to the new recommendations:

Since 2001, "a number of observational studies have been published confirming that air travel is generally safe during an uncomplicated pregnancy. These new studies have made our previous recommendations stronger and more detailed . . . When a patient with an uncomplicated pregnancy asks about occasional flying, we should feel comfortable saying, 'It's safe.'"

That's great news for women whose work requires them to travel and for those looking to squeeze in a relaxing babymoon or trip to visit distant friends prior to the lil one's arrival. The new recommendations should also ease the minds of moms-to-be who like to fly themselves, like Angelina Jolie who was piloting her own plane while pregnant with Vivienne and Knox and Gisele Bundchen who recently took up helicopter lessons. Pregnancy has become an industry of its own with couture clothes, high end belly rubs and push prizes, but before an expectant mama's stomach gets too stretched, there's one last hurrah - the babymoon.

Just as newlyweds take a trip to kick off married life, expectant parents enjoy a babymoon to cherish each other before infant makes three.

Not everyone can afford a trip around the world, but here are some getaway options for parents-to-be. To see our recommendations, read more.

$ – Rent a hotel room for one night in your city. Order room service, set up massages and enjoy a night with your sweetie.
$$ – Plan an escape to a local town where you can spend some quality together time over a romantic dinner.
$$$ – Book a long weekend in NYC, San Francisco, the Rockies, or a Florida beach where you can enjoy the scenery and plan some exciting activities.
$$$$ – If you've got the money and time, arrange an extended trip to Italy, Mexico, Hawaii or another exotic location where R&R is served up first–class.

The generation that touts rhinestone pacifiers is making babymoons more of a pregnancy staple than a rarity. But, not everyone is born with a silver spoon.

My husband and I took a little "babymoon" to Hawaii last week for some quality time before our lives change forever in February. It was really nice to relax together and gave me a chance to show off my baby bump on the beach! Anybody else have bumps to share?

Why Didn't Anybody Tell Me: Klutz

Pregnancy turned me into a klutz. I guess I should have expected as much. As fingers swell and ankles balloon, it makes sense that agility would take a nosedive.

Slicing tomatoes became a harrowing task as my fingertips quickly became bloodied and bandaged. Even walking became a conscious activity. About halfway through my pregnancy, my husband and I took a babymoon to Italy, where I fell in the middle of a busy cobblestone street with scooters zooming by me. Luckily, the incident didn't cause bodily harm to baby or me - just my ego. Unfortunately, there's not much you can do about being clumsy. The only two things that helped me were better shoes and heightened awareness.
