Recent research suggests that moms-to-be who eat apples during pregnancy, have children with lower rates of asthma. Those who consumed more than four apples a week had children who were 37 percent less likely to have asthma.

Mothers who consume fish (more than once a week) during pregnancy may lower their child's risk of developing eczema. Too much of a good thing can be bad though, especially in the case of fish. Consuming high amounts of fish can boost mercury levels in a developing fetus so don't overdo it.

Best practice is to focus on eating a diet wide in a variety of fruits, vegetables, and proteins - but now you may want to make sure that it includes a few apples and pieces of fish.

Yesterday morning, geeksugar arrived at the office with a grocery bag full of little, green apples. YumSugar and I are splitting the bag, and both of us shall make a delicious dessert to share with the Sugar gals. Right away Yum announced the upcoming arrival of an apple pie. Shocked and worried - how to compete with America's most classic, beloved pie? - I frantically searched the web for a secret weapon. Then it hit me, apple cupcakes! Cupcakes are a dessert that everyone loves and no one can resist.

Apple Cupcakes
From Martha Stewart Kids

2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 teaspoon salt
8 tablespoons (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
2 cups sugar
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
4 cups coarsely shredded apples, such as Macintosh (about 1 3/4 pounds)
Cream-Cheese Frosting
Marzipan Apples, optional see below

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line two standard muffin tins with paper liners; set aside.
Whisk together flour, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt in a medium bowl; set aside.
Cream butter and sugar on medium-high speed in the bowl of a mixer fitted with the paddle until pale and fluffy, about 5 minutes. Mix in eggs and vanilla.
Reduce speed to low; mix in apples. Add flour mixture; mix, scraping down sides of bowl as needed, until just combined.
Fill lined cups halfway with batter; bake until tops are springy to the touch, 18 to 20 minutes.
Remove from tins; let cool on a wire rack. When completely cool, frost cupcakes; top with marzipan apples.

For marzipan apples: Tint some marzipan red and some green (find it in the baking section of your grocery store). Roll red marzipan into balls on a cornstarch-dusted surface. Score bottoms with toothpick. For leaves, flatten teardrop-shaped green marzipan; add veins with toothpick. Roll worms from un-tinted marzipan; add green nonpareils for eyes. Use brown sprinkles for stems. Make holes for worm and stem, and insert.

Makes 24 cupcakes.

Apple Pulls Shaken Baby iPhone App

Tech giant Apple is as family friendly as they come - from its in-store kiddie computer areas that occupy tots while parents are in line making purchases to numerous iPhone apps geared toward the younger set. So I was stunned (and sickened) to learn that though the company does not allow curse words to be used in its applications, an app that encouraged baby shaking was somehow approved. Until recently, users could purchase the game for 99 cents and shake their iPhones to stop babies from crying while a timer kept track of how fast they could accomplish the task. The application has since been pulled. What's your opinion on the issue?

Apple and Moses Don't Fall Far From Gwyneth

It's almost as rare to see sweet Apple and chubby cheeked, Moses Martin together as it is to spot their parents, Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin out and about.

And, while the actress and her music man make a conscious effort to keep their relationship from the public eye, there's no denying that their offspring are two of a kind in these rare recent photos.

The tots were in London with their nanny and grandma. It's obvious that Apple didn't fall far from mama's tree with her long blond hair and defined facial features.

Time will tell if lil man Moses will resemble his mum or Coldplaying pops.

Celebabies Have Crocs and Slippers on the Soles of Their Feet

Summer's here and the time is right for lil ones to be dancing in the street. But before they get footloose, they've got to cover their feet and Tinseltown's tots and politikids are embracing two styles this season - laid back casual and dainty sophistication. Crocs are still tops for a number of kiddos with Leni Klum, Apple and Moses Martin and River Deary sporting the ubiquitous non-slip sandals that caused a stir when they first hit playgrounds two years ago. Lil girls looking to add some slip-on style to their wardrobes are shopping the ballet flats at Crewcuts. Sasha Obama boarded Air Force One in a pair and landed in Moscow in another, while Suri Cruise opted for a more wild style while attending the Australian theater.

Tired of the same ol', same ol'? Almost every Halloween soiree is guaranteed to offer up candy and caramel covered apples. Take the opportunity to serve up something refreshing, fun and super easy to make. Whip up some Jell-O jigglers in festive colors and shapes. Tots will get fired up to offer a helping hand and mama will delight in the easy clean up and simple recipe.

Pick out colors to suit your fancy. I chose orange and purple for their Halloween spirit and their tasty purposes.
Use the Jell-O jiggler recipe given on the side of the box - it is not the same as regular Jell-O!
When the Jell-O has settled, pull the trays out of the refrigerator and place it on a larger bin or warm water to loosen the bottom of the Jell-O.
For ease, I cut the Jell-O into squares with a wet knife and then removed the pieces and placed them on a level cutting board.
Dip the your cookie cutters into water before using it on the Jell-O -it makes for smoother edges.
Peel the excess away from the cookie cutter and use your spatula to remove the jiggler from the cutting board. Place it on the serving tray.

When all of the jigglers have been cut out, mama can enlist her troops to decorate the lil fellas. Use miniature marshmallows and pink decorating gel for eyes and black decorating gel for the jack-o'-lantern's mugs. If you want to add some flair to the tray, use a small circular object and cut out small bits of Jell-O to the edges.

Coldplay's soulful music makes us understand why stunner Gwyneth Paltrow went weak at the knees for front man, Chris Martin. Using his music to comment on historical events and current social conditions, Martin has jettisoned his band to the global stage. When he's not touring the world or collecting Grammys, the very private musician can sometimes be seen spotted with his tots – Apple, 4, and Moses, 3, – at the playground or an amusement park. Rarely photographed together, Martin and his wonder woman wife say they cherish the bit of privacy they have been able to create for their family in both London and New York.

After taking some heat for naming their first-born after a piece of fruit, Martin spoke out on the rash of odd celebrity baby names, saying:

"People make a big fuss over names. Names of babies, names of albums, names of bands. There's nothing weird about calling your baby Chewbacca if that's what you want to call your baby. It's no stranger than Sarah. A name is just a noise, and if you like it, then f*** what everyone else says.''

While I may not be considering Star Wars characters to name my next child, it's nice to know that Martin is so open-minded.
