As a mom, I love when I find cute things that also teach my kids something. That is what I had in mind when I designed my alphabet nursery pillow cover. This has catapulted me into a whole line of nursery decor that I want to design for my Etsy shop.

For this piece I kept it gender neutral with a soft blue duck fabric and soft very pale pink thread. My 3-year-old son couldn't resist trying to name all the letters as I posed the piece for pictures.

A bona fide typography nerd, I gravitate toward alphabet motifs in all shapes and forms. From throw pillows emblazoned with letters to quotation mark bookends, the typography trend is one that I wholeheartedly support.

So imagine how excited I was to discover this Aakkoset Bookcase by Ugandan-born designer Lincoln Kayiwa, which uses each letter's form as a nook to hold books, CDs, magazines, accessories, and more. It can also be left empty and used as a room divider for open-plan living spaces or studios. Better yet, if you're not enthused about rouge, it can be ordered in black, blue, green, orange, violet, white, or yellow. I think it would be terrific in a playroom or elementary school. Is it too modern for you or do you love it too?

Lots of moms like to think out loud! Hansel and Gretel shared a lil learning game on her OnSugar blog, Hansel and Gretel.

It is so exciting when your child recognizes letters and numbers. Children are sponges and soak so much information and their memories are unbelievable, which can sometimes bite you on the backside.

When I noticed that Tyler was taking a real interest in letters, I began to think about some five minute learning games that would encourage this curiosity and recognition of letters. It was important that I waited until Tyler was clearly interested and ready, otherwise it would mean nothing and he would only get frustrated.

One simple alphabet activity that stems back to when I was teaching 'Early Years', is quick, fun and easy.

All we need is three paper plates, three catching bean bags and a thick texta.

Lil Tip: Make Your Refrigerator a Classroom

Every evening when I come home, I am torn between rolling around on the ground with my toddler or getting her dinner on the stove. Now, I do both at once.

Melissa and Doug's magnetic letters ($10) allow her to learn her ABCs and colors while I start chopping. In between slicing and dicing, I look down to her and ask, "Where's your blue letter F?" She scrambles around, finds it and places it on the "board." I cheer her on and we both clap. Mission accomplished: fun and learning time spent together.
