5 Nursing Bras to Add to Your New Mama Wardrobe

Your breasts definitely feel the effects of pregnancy and mommyhood.

Your breasts definitely feel the effects of pregnancy and mommyhood. Almost from conception, they begin to swell, and before you know it, not one of your bras will fit. And just when you think they couldn't get any bigger, your baby is born, your milk comes in, and the fun really begins. I woke up from a nap in the hospital three days after my daughter was born, and my boobs had literally grown three cup sizes in less than an hour. Ouch!

While some new moms walk around topless because of the uncomfortable feeling of engorgement and the irritation of having to undress so often with a seemingly constantly hungry newborn, eventually you're going to want to cover your boobs (or, as my hubby so delicately calls them, "milkers"). A great nursing bra can be your "breast" friend (couldn't resist). Here are five that will round out your bra wardrobe during breastfeeding.

OnSugar Blog: My Favorite Nursing Bra Style

Lots of moms like to think out loud, and CWTMommy is one of them. She is on a mission to find the best nursing bra on the market. Here's her latest review from her My Experiment With Nursing Bras blog.

Drum roll please . . . and the winner is . . . a classic underwire bra! The specific one I tried from Leading Lady is style J126640 ($26).

I've always been an underwire kind of girl from as long as I can remember. It all comes down to support for me. They need to be tamed and framed. So naturally, when I decided to breastfeed I was so scared about what to do with my bras. Everywhere you go in the mommy world you hear about horror stories of infections and complications with mastitis. If I couldn't do underwire I didn't know what I would do. But I am lucky, so incredibly terribly lucky.

I'm not going to give another total review on it. If you'd like to read the original one here's the link to it. I will, however, give you some of the highlights of why it's my favorite. The support is super fabulous. Naturally it would be because of the underwire, but it is a really well made bra. The cups are molded and supportive all on their own. The straps didn't fall down off my shoulders either. The lace is just an added bonus. It's so pretty and it makes me really feel like a woman again.

Now, I know that most of you reading this probably can't do underwire, so I'm going to share my second favorite: no wire molded cup sport bra (The one I tried was style 4388.)

No, this is not the most attractive bra in the world.  No, this is not the most supportive bra in the world.  However, being a no wire it's pretty darn close. This is my second favorite because this is the most supportive no wire bra I've ever tried. Granted, besides this experiment there haven't been many, but I am really impressed with it. The cotton is soft and kept me dry through leakage or sweat. I really enjoyed the familiar feeling of having dedicated cups rather than a squishy compression bra that hurts like no other with sore milky boobs. I personally would need a little more from it to use it as a heavy activity sports bra, but it's pretty great for light stuff like cleaning the house or walking with a stroller. It's also decent enough to go out in public for those of you who are self conscious about that kind of thing.

I'm done! Now that this experiment has concluded, I'm currently coming up with ideas for what to focus on next. I would love any feedback you have for what direction to go now. But stay tuned because I just might have something else up my sleeve. Smiling

OnSugar Blog: Sport Wirefree Nursing Bra Review

Lots of moms like to think out loud, and CWTMommy is one of them.

Lots of moms like to think out loud, and CWTMommy is one of them. She is on a mission to find the best nursing bras on the market, and today she's trying out a nursing sports bra on her My Experiment With Nursing Bras blog.

I've never really seen the real use of a sport nursing bra, but seeing as I was doing the whole experiment thing, I couldn't rule it out for all of you.

So I've been wearing the sports bra for a couple days and I have to say . . . not bad, not bad at all.  It's actually a really nice bra if you use it for lazy weekends, or hanging around the house, or taking a walk with a stroller.  I've never really had any sports bras with molded cups to begin with, so this was a new thing for me.

If I'm working out, I prefer to just use compression bras and squeeze the crap of out the girls. That feels more comfortable to me, but I would guess it's not everyone's first choice. So when I tried working out in it, I just felt really weird and uncomfortable.  It wasn't what I was used to so I don't know if that would be something I'd get used to or if I never would.  I'll be trying it a couple more times, but overall, not the best for working out, for me.  Something I was thinking about before I exercised, have any of you worked out in something like this and had the clasps undo themselves on accident?  It didn't happen to me, but I wondered if anyone else experienced that?

Sexy Maternity Lingerie Is Not an Oxymoron

As Jessica Alba bravely illustrated last week, being pregnant doesn't mean you're off limits in the bedroom.
Sexy Maternity Lingerie

As Jessica Alba bravely illustrated last week, being pregnant doesn't mean you're off limits in the bedroom. In fact, many mamas-to-be are raring to go (thank you hormones!), so expecting parents should take advantage of their child-free nights (and mornings and afternoons), because once there's a tiny tot on the scene, parents' sexy time is the first thing to go. Pregnant women tend to feel enormous, but if you ask most partners, they'll tell you that there's nothing sexier than a beautiful, glowing mama-to-be, so there's no reason to limit bedroom attire to massive cotton T-shirts. It is possible to find baby-bump friendly lingerie that's comfortable, sexy, and will make a smooth transition from maternity wear to nursing wear.

OnSugar Blog: Nursing Chemise Advice Needed

Lots of moms like to think out loud, and CWTMommy is one of them.

Lots of moms like to think out loud, and CWTMommy is one of them. She is on a mission to find the best nursing bra on the market, but today she's looking for some advice on her My Experiment With Nursing Bras blog.

I can't resist a coupon, let alone a free shipping one. So I think I might get some more stuff to try just because I've really liked what I've gotten. I already have a couple things picked out, the only problem is I don't know whether or not to try a nursing chemise. I guess it's like a cotton spaghetti strap nightgown with nursing bells and whistles?

Who has had a nursing chemise/nightgown before and did you like it? Is it worth it?

OnSugar Blog: Another Good Nursing Bra Ladies!

This episode of Nursing Bra Experiment is brought to you by: Lightly Molded Crossover Leisure Bra - Style 409

I must say, this was a great pick considering I have been suffering from one nasty sunburn. Usually, I have to go braless with sunburns because of...you know...the mind numbing pain. So I did indeed go wild and free for a couple days (plus my little tube top from high school, didn't want to freak my family out too much.) A full bottle of aloe later, I managed to ease this leisure/sleep bra on. Plus, I really needed to start wearing something; my ladies were hurting and I swear they were closer to my belly button already. So on it went and on it's stayed.

So far, I've been majorly impressed with the fabric of the bras I've gotten, and this is no exception. It's a cotton-spandex blend (mostly cotton) so it was nice to have something uber soft against my burns. The little bit of spandex added a nice stretch factor so it was tight against my skin or my chest, but still secure and snug, and didn't stay stretched.

This particular style was a back closure. It was ok as far as closures go, but I kinda wished it was just a pull over your head thing, I seem to prefer those in non molded cup bras. It wasn't uncomfortable laying down or sleeping, so I guess I don't technically have any complaints there.

OnSugar Blog: Lace-Cup Wirefree Nursing Bra Review

Lots of moms like to think out loud, and CWTMommy is one of them.

Lots of moms like to think out loud, and CWTMommy is one of them. She is on a mission to find the best nursing bra on the market. Here's one of her latest reviews from her My Experiment With Nursing Bras blog.

So I went to the mall Friday afternoon to JC Penny. After looking online at the Leading Lady nursing bra products, I knew which one I wanted to try first. On the website, the Lace-Cup Wirefree Nursing Bra was listed as being sold at JC Penny.  So I called up the store and made sure they had my size before going all that way. So I went and bought it and brought it home for its test run.

First of all, this thing is cute. It has a nude background with an all over black lace overlay; talk about feeling feminine!

So this particular style is a wire free cup with the clasps on the straps. It took a couple tries to get the hang of unclasping one handed, but it became easy and automatic. (I hate those bras where it's like a Rubix cube to get the clasp done and undone, requiring both hands, and not something you can discreetly do in public if you need to.) Therefore, the ease of access was a 9/10.

Comfort was an 8/10 for me on this one. I was able to wear it during the day no problem. However, I found that it was a little tough to sleep in this. The lace on the front side of the cup and below on the band was just a little bit scratchy and rubbed me as I tossed and turned. I made it through the night, but I probably will be wearing something a little more minimalistic next time.

On a side note, I noticed something interesting with this bra compared to some others I had used during nursing. My baby seemed a lot more distracted with this lace one and kept trying to pull at it and play with it. It did not seem to affect the actual nursing, thankfully, but he was a little bit more active while latched.

Overall, this bra was pretty nice. Both my husband and I love this sexy lace look (and it made me feel like a WOMAN) and it seems to be a perfect bra to wear during the day. Also, the ease (after practice) of clasping and unclasping made it ideal for discreet public nursing. I'm definitely going to be using this again after this!

Cake Lingerie Heats Things Up With Tech Advanced Maternity Bras

We all may not have Victoria's Secret model bodies before (or after) our babies, but pregnancy does give us some awesome lingerie model assets.

We all may not have Victoria's Secret model bodies before (or after) our babies, but pregnancy does give us some awesome lingerie model assets. A growing bustline is often the first one, but it deserves more than just a bump up in cup size.

Cake Lingerie is introducing MyBust Technology based on the premise that mamas wearing B-D cups need different support, but the same sexiness as those with E-G cup sizes. The Birthday Cake collection ($55 to $70), which includes the purple and black Turkish Delight and the violet silk Velvet Delight, are constructed in a plunge style for the smaller sizes and balcony style for larger ones to provide the proper shape and support women need. All cake bras feature drop-down panels for breastfeeding to use once lil ones arrive – though with the lingerie's Agent Provocateur-style, nursing may be the last thing from a mama's mind when she wears these sexy pieces.

Lil Community: How to Choose a Good Nursing Bra?

Looking for a little support?

Looking for a little support? LilSugar reader Beaner is in search of the perfect nursing bra and is asking our readers for some help in The Pregnancy Posse group.

I had a slightly traumatic experience at my local mall's Motherhood Maternity store. Not only were their bras unsupportive and not that easy to use, they were the most unsexy pieces of underwear I've ever seen. Not that I need to look like a Victoria's Secret model while feeding my babe, but seriously, I felt so unattractive and frustrated, I just left the store.

I'm wondering if any of you moms-to-be have any advice on where to get good nursing bras that are easy to use, supportive, and not too pricey. I'd also be interested in knowing good places to get nursing camis. Also, how do I know what size to get? I'm 36 weeks now and would rather get some bras before the baby comes because bra shopping is the last thing I want to do after I give birth. Thanks!
