Third Time's a Charm: No Ridiculous Pregnancy Comments

People say the most ridiculous things to pregnant women.

People say the most ridiculous things to pregnant women. While expecting my daughter and son, my jaw constantly dropped at the rude, crude and absent-minded things people said to me...with a straight face. BabySugar encountered the same nonsense while she was with child. But, it appears that the third time is the charm since I can really only recall two off comments people have made to me in the past 40 weeks. The first was about a month ago when I was shopping for a friend's wedding gift and the glass saleswoman told me to sit down before my water broke. She then told me to double check with my doctor because she was sure I was having twins. Thanks lady. The next was a few days later when I ran into an acquaintance who told me she was less than half my size when she had her daughter. "Good for you," was all I could muster as a response.

But those two doozies aside, this has been a low-key pregnancy with lots of perks — like complimentary beverages and servers at my favorite cafes betting on the sex of my baby. Who knew baristas were so into procreating? While stopping to pick up water spiked with a little green tea and a coffee for my husband, three different coffee clerks at separate Starbucks locations gave me free drinks! When a Shower Isn't Appropriate, How About a Sprinkle?

While every baby deserves to be celebrated, some mamas-to-be are uncomfortable with big bashes hosted for their subsequent children.

While every baby deserves to be celebrated, some mamas-to-be are uncomfortable with big bashes hosted for their subsequent children. I am one of them. Four fetes were thrown in my honor when I was expecting my daughter. Awaiting the birth of my son, a close circle of friends treated me to an unexpected, festive brunch. Now, nine months pregnant with my third child, I've again been spoiled rotten. First, my fabulous co-workers treated me a sendoff complete with one of BabySugar's incredible diaper cakes, and yesterday, a few friends threw me a surprise sprinkle!

A low-key alternative to a baby shower, a sprinkle is a casual get together. Three friends hosted the lil soiree for me, and the guest list rounded out at six as my daughter and a friend's baby also attended. We enjoyed mocktails and munchies — fruit salad, spinach dip, and miniature cupcakes — while chatting about the impending babe. I was gifted lovely presents from practical velvet space-saving hangers to postpartum hospital pajamas. If you want to make a mother-to-be feel special without all the hoopla of a formal affair, a sprinkle expresses the perfect amount of sentiment.

A Sugar Shower to Send LilSugar Off in Style!

Before LilSugar welcomes her third bebe, we decided to throw a fete in her honor.

Before LilSugar welcomes her third bebe, we decided to throw a fete in her honor. Not wanting to mess with pale pinks and blues, we went for brighter hues to celebrate the sweet mommy. Orange and green were the colors of choice, which proved to be a fan favorite amongst the baby shower revelers. Also a big hit? Rice Krispie Treats on a stick and Arnold Palmers for everyone!

The Pregnancy Diet: We Always Want What We Can't Have

There's something about pregnancy that makes me constantly crave foods that I cannot eat, even those I seldom ate when I wasn't expecting.

There's something about pregnancy that makes me constantly crave foods that I cannot eat, even those I seldom ate when I wasn't expecting. As tempting as alcohol may be to some mamas-to-be, my beverage of choice since becoming a mom is Starbucks iced green tea. It has a fair amount of caffeine so I'm not comfortable downing it while with child, but I do plan on drinking a Venti in the hospital bed once this bundle of joy arrives.

Then there's the listeria issue, I'm not a big cheese eater, but every salad that sounds appetizing lately contains crumbled bits of gorgonzola or feta which fall into the unpasteurized and off limits category. Are there certain foods you fiend while pregnant — did you abstain or indulge?
