Is Kiddie Couture Blurring the Line Between Mom and Child?

We told you luxe is where it's at for tots!

We told you luxe is where it's at for tots! Gucci, Lanvin, Stella McCartney, Oscar de la Renta, and Fendi have all extended their design houses to include clothing lines with luxury pieces for pint-sized fashionistas, and it looks like mamas are lapping them up! According to NPD Group Inc. Consumer Tracking Service, Americans spent more than $32 billion on kids clothes last year — with $800 million of that spent on designer kids labels!

Over on Good Morning America this morning, Mary Pflum took an in-depth look at the world of designer kids clothes, interviewing a group of moms and tots about their thoughts on the popular trend. While the girls drooled over the haute couture looks, the moms expressed concern about the lessons the garments teach. One said it becomes hard to teach kids values like "beauty is not determined by a fancy label or a pricey garment," while another said the line between kids and parents becomes blurred when such pieces are so readily available. Do you agree?

Rachel Zoe to Launch Kids Clothing Line With Lots of Boys Clothes!

It's the boys' turn now!

It's the boys' turn now! For all the times moms of boys have browsed through the kids section and admired all of the adorable lil dresses and cute clothes for girls, only to find a handful of khakis and polos for boys, things are about to change. Since having a son of her own, and seeing the lack of exciting and different clothing options available for him, Rachel Zoe is setting her sights on the lil boy's department.

Appearing on Nightline last night, the celebrity stylist and women's clothing designer announced that she is launching a high-end clothing line for kids, and given her own experience shopping for baby Skyler, she added, "Let me tell you, there’s going to be a lot of boys clothes in my line, I’m just saying!"

Keep reading to see what designer goodies lil Skyler has in his walk-in closet!

It's a wrap! Legendary designer Diane Von Furstenberg will soon be making up miniversions of her famed patterned garments for kids in a new collaboration with Gap Inc. The woman who "invented" the wrap dress is currently drafting up girls' designs for Gap Kids that are set to hit stores next Spring. Unlike other high-end designers that have recently announced lines for tots, the collection will be sold at Gap prices rather than luxury.

The '60s and '70s icon is known for designing pieces without the use of zippers or buttons, making them perfect for finicky kids who often shy away from the fasteners as well! We can't wait to get a sneak peek of her pint-sized, fun fabrics styles. Given Stella McCartney's successful work with the retail chain, we're sure they will be flying off the shelves!

Gap at ShopStyle

It's in the bag! Lil ones dressed in BabyGap's cowl neck onesie ($12) will be the envy of the posh peeps on the playground. In line with this season's Parisian-chic trend, the San Francisco-based retailer is selling a top featuring a tasseled, quilted purse with a chain strap that bears a striking resemblance to a certain haute couture bag.

With many premier designers entering the children's apparel industry this year — Gucci, Stella McCartney, and Fendi to name a few — it's no surprise that the ultimate in French couture is now accessible to tots.
