Baby Born in Car While Officer Tries to Ticket Dad For Speeding

We've all seen TV show couples try to get out of a ticket by claiming that the woman is pregnant and about to have her baby.

We've all seen TV show couples try to get out of a ticket by claiming that the woman is pregnant and about to have her baby. But for Tyler and Ashley Rathjen of Iowa City, IA, this really was the reason they were pulled over by a cop for speeding. It's what happened next though, that's truly amazing.

The police officer chased the Rathjens to within two blocks of the hospital, where they finally stopped at a red light in heavy traffic. As the video below shows, while Tyler explained their situation to the officer, Ashley had the baby!

OnSugar Blog: The Great Delivery!

There's an amazing tale to be told of how each baby enters the world.

There's an amazing tale to be told of how each baby enters the world. We've been following along with CherylDee's pregnancy. She presents her lil one's birth story on the latest post to her Lipsticks to Baby Bottles blog. Here's an excerpt.

So the best friend and her sister met me at the clinic for my checkup. (It's great to have your best friend by your side!) My doc had to check how dilated I was to determine how soon or how late my delivery would be.

Dr. Heng: Hmm...you're only 1cm dilated. Don't think baby is coming anytime soon. Also your baby's head is very low. I can feel her head. Quite a bit of hair.

Cheryl: So nothing to worry about yeah?

Dr. Heng: Nope. I'll see you again next week okay! Eat healthy! See you next week!

So we decided to go get our nails done. Typical girlie thing to do. I started to feel some pains. Like I felt constipated. But I knew it was coming from the baby. So I called my mum to tell her and she was all, "Maybe you're being paranoid." So I decided to just not panic and carry on doing my nails. The best friend noticed that I was starting to get uncomfortable and said we can leave if we wanted to, but I though, heck, must be my imagination. After getting our nails done, we had our dinner which I felt I was dying already, so we quickly rushed home to my place and I plonked my butt in bed squirming in pain.

Thank goodness the best friend decided to stay with me at home, because I would have died in the pain I swear! She helped call Sham who was still at work to rush home. By the time he got home, I told him we needed to head to the hospital. Something was not right. The pain was nothing I had imagined. Good thing Sham's cousin lives across the street from us, because he offered to drive us down to the hospital and thank goodness that the hospital was literally 5 minutes away by car from our house.

So we get to East Shore Hospital and they immediately put me in a wheelchair and I get pushed up to the Delivery ward. (It started getting so real at this point of time!)

My doc happened to be in the next room delivering another baby so she came to check on me right after, and broke my water bag for me and in a span of just an hour, I dilated from 1 cm to 3 cm. No one prepares you for the kind of pain you go through for labour. The starting was not so bad. But then it started to get more pain as the contractions became more frequent. They gave me laughing gas to help with the pain, but that made me puke heaps. I remember my doc saying, "Baby won't be arriving till about 7/8 am. So I'm going home to sleep. See you later!"

OnSugar Blog: My Natural Birth Story

Lots of moms like to think out loud, and Dr G is one of them.

Lots of moms like to think out loud, and Dr G is one of them. In her latest post to The Goodmans, she shares her birth story.

Every mom has a birth story; the story of how their child came into the world. Most of the time birth stories start with one of the following: "I had an epidural", "I went drug-free", "I had a scheduled c-section", "I had to be induced", etc.

The birth story of my youngest son starts when I was 6 months pregnant and began training for his birth. Yes that’s right, training. I compare childbirth to a marathon. The way I see it, if you have a plan and train for a few months before a marathon, you will likely fare much better than the runner next to you at the starting line who woke up that morning and said ‘I am just going to run and see how it goes’. I hear that a lot when it comes to birth. Many women say "I’d like to go without an epidural, so I will see how it goes". While I applaud the intention, I now realize that there is a lot more to having an easy, comfortable, natural birth than just good intention.

OnSugar Blog: Dirty Thirty – A Good Day in LA

Lots of moms like to think out loud, and Carri is one of them.

Lots of moms like to think out loud, and Carri is one of them. In her latest post to Adventures in Mommyhood, she shares her birth story.

I told the doctor I was going to have him quickly.

My mom had me in two hours and my brother in one. Her doctor told her that if she got pregnant again, she'd better live in a Winnebago in the hospital parking lot. When I told my doctor this, she wasn't impressed. Maybe it wasn't that, actually; it was more along the lines of disbelief. Women never have their first baby that quickly. Never ever in the history of man. And I wasn't going to be the first.

So there I was, in the delivery room, dilated to a six and not in labor. No water breaking in the mall. No 80 year old woman holding my hand in an ambulance. No giving birth on the freeway because the traffic here sucks. There we sat, watching the lines on the monitor show no progress.

The nurses had a new attitude now that I was actually admitted in the hospital and having a baby today, just like I had told them thirty minutes before. One of them came in and turned on the TV that was on the other side of the big, brand new room. She asked if the news was OK, and it was. Why the heck not. Maybe watching that super annoying Jillian Reynolds on "Good Day LA" would send my body into convulsions and cause the baby to have no choice but to quickly exit.
