Lie Back, Feet Up, and Watch the National Zoo's Lion Cub Cam!

Congrats, Mama! Shera gave birth to four cubs on Aug.

Congrats, Mama! Shera gave birth to four cubs on Aug. 31 at the National Zoo in DC, and you can watch them move — or, at press time, sleep — at your leisure!

The newly launched Lioncub Cam goes behind the scenes for a sneak peek at the babes not yet on exhibit to public visitors. The lil ones are still without names but, if this zoo's past tweeting habits are any indication, I'm sure we'll learn more about the lion babies sooner rather than later!

If you're as captivated as I was by my dog's daycare camera, refresh your memory on my tips to set one up in your home, too!

What's More Awkward: Bluetooth or Video Chat?

The trailer for Michael Bay's Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen shows Sam moving into a dorm and flirting with a Bluetooth-using Mikaela about the webcam he got so they can "chat like 24/7."

The trailer for Michael Bay's Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen shows Sam moving into a dorm and flirting with a Bluetooth-using Mikaela about the webcam he got so they can "chat like 24/7." It's a cute scene, but I can't help but think about how unnatural both technologies are to use. Many states have adopted hands free laws, which require cell users to use a Bluetooth or hands free device when driving (just ask Tinseltown celebs who stay connected via a headset), but there's no getting around the funny feeling of sticking a device on your ear when trying to connect with someone. And then there's video chat. Most of you admit you've used video chat before, but it's not exactly a natural experience. As soon as I receive a request to video chat I wonder if I have salad in my teeth or if my hair looks a mess. They are great technologies, but boy are they strange to use. Which communication tool do you think is more awkward?

Do You Video Chat With Distant Relatives?

I'm lucky enough to live in the same city as my parents and in-laws, but some of the moms at Sugar HQ live thousands of miles away from their tots' grandparents.

I'm lucky enough to live in the same city as my parents and in-laws, but some of the moms at Sugar HQ live thousands of miles away from their tots' grandparents. To break the distance barrier, they use the web cams in their computers to iChat with their parents on a regular basis. They say the online video conversations allow their children to keep up their relationships with their grandparents and satisfy the grandparents' desires to see their loved ones on a more frequent than possible basis.

According to an article in The New York Times, there has been a 20 percent growth in video calling over the last year and that number is only expected to grow as more computers contain built-in web cams.

Family Ties: Video Conferencing

Last night while I was typing away, I got a pop–up request to accept a video conference call from my cousin in NYC.

Last night while I was typing away, I got a pop–up request to accept a video conference call from my cousin in NYC.

As soon as I hit the "accept" key, I saw my cousin, her husband and their precious new baby girl.

We chatted for nearly an hour and showed off our offspring. With 2,600 miles between us and children under 2 years of age, video conferencing is just about the best way for us to watch each other's children grow up. We email pictures, but tonight my lil one blew her kisses. To learn how you can do this, read more
