Octomom and Her Money Mess Revealed on Oprah

Imagine how much money it takes to care for 14 kids.

Imagine how much money it takes to care for 14 kids. Yup, I can't really fathom that either. Octomom, Nadya Suleman, had become a hated public figure after it was revealed that she had been unemployed and unable to care for her first six kids financially when she decided to have another eight kids. Nadya admitted on the show that she was "self-medicating through children."

Something that rang really true was Oprah's response to Nadya's confession. Oprah said, "People do it with their things all the time. How many people have things that they can't afford and then they go get something else they can't afford, living in houses they can't afford?"

Nadya, who had $300 to her name before Suze Orman stepped in, fixed her finances by listening to the personal finance expert's advice. She got rid of her three nannies, had a garage sale to sell things she didn't need, got an agent (which she was unwilling to get because she didn't want to sell out her children), and went to church to pray.

One big lesson I took away from this episode is the importance of accepting reality. Nadya said she didn't want to take public assistance because she was afraid of what people thought, to which Suze said, "What do you care? Everybody already hates you." Reality might not be as harsh as Suze's words to Nadya, but everyone needs to face the truth about their finances and learn to really live within their means.

Nadya Suleman on Oprah: Can Any Mother Handle 14 Children?

Nadya Suleman gained fame (or infamy) when she gave birth to the world's first surviving octuplets.

Nadya Suleman gained fame (or infamy) when she gave birth to the world's first surviving octuplets. The mom quickly given the nickname "Octomom" already had six children at home. During an interview with Oprah that aired today, the talk show host asked, "Do you feel that you can give your children what they need and deserve?" Suleman said no, that "no parent could," but that she would die before she'd give up any of her kids. What one woman can handle is overwhelming for another. While some parents hit their limit with a single child, there are others like the Duggars who have 19 and would welcome more offspring. But do you think any single mother (or father) could handle the Suleman bunch, which includes octuplets, twins, and an autistic child?

Whatever your opinion of Nadya Suleman's decision to carry eight babies at once, most can agree that her quick slim-down is rather astonishing.

Whatever your opinion of Nadya Suleman's decision to carry eight babies at once, most can agree that her quick slim-down is rather astonishing. When her octuplets were born nine months ago, Nadya weighed 270 pounds. In the latest issue of Us Weekly, she admitted she packed on the pounds by "eating everything in sight." Now this five-foot-seven single mom of 14 has lost 145 pounds and 39 inches off her waist and weighs 125 pounds.

Oops! Nadya Suleman Breaks the Hands Free Cell Phone Law

One would think, especially with so many children, Nadya Suleman would be a safety pro and abide by California law by using a Bluetooth device or a hands free cell phone earpiece while operating a motor vehicle.

One would think, especially with so many children, Nadya Suleman would be a safety pro and abide by California law by using a Bluetooth device or a hands free cell phone earpiece while operating a motor vehicle.

Sadly, this wasn't the case when the famous mother of fourteen was caught yesterday gabbing on her cell phone while driving by police. The Hands Free Law — which kicked into effect last July — is intended to make drivers more aware while driving — and therefore decreasing traffic accidents. With fun iPhone apps and hands free earpiece devices like the one Eva Mendes uses, there really aren't any excuses.

Now onto something more entertaining, a recent funny clip from Desperate Housewives when Susan had a similar Nadya incident. To watch just read more

Would You Buy Octomom Diapers?

If celeb moms like Tori Spelling and Nicole Richie can design their own lines of baby and maternity clothes, why can't Nadya Suleman, the woman who gave birth to eight babies via IVF earlier this year?

If celeb moms like Tori Spelling and Nicole Richie can design their own lines of baby and maternity clothes, why can't Nadya Suleman, the woman who gave birth to eight babies via IVF earlier this year? According to the US Patent and Trademark Office, Suleman's attorneys filed two applications to trademark her media-given moniker, Octomom, and giving permission "to use my nickname as Trademark or Servicemark." The papers state that Suleman intends to place the name on a line of dresses, pants, shirts and diapers.

Shocking & Predictable: "Octomom" in Talks For Reality Show

Nadya Suleman isn't going away anytime soon.

Nadya Suleman isn't going away anytime soon. The mother of 14, who already has the tabloid-ready nickname "Octomom," is in talks for a reality show to be broadcast either on TV or online, according to In Touch Weekly.

While America already has Jon & Kate Plus 8 and 17 Kids and Counting, Nadya's show has a new twist: it will be about parenting and the single mom's quest for love. Seriously? She has time to date?

While there's no you-must-have-your-life-together" requirement for reality TV (in fact I think it's the exact opposite), chronicling this woman's life for entertainment purposes just sounds depressing. Still I can't think of many people who wouldn't feel better about their life situation after watching this rumored show. I guess we need that in these tough times?

I'd like to think everyone is a little Octomomed out at this point. But clearly Nadya Suleman needs the money, and the American audience seems willing to watch so she can get paid.

Nadya Suleman can't get a break.

Nadya Suleman can't get a break. First Dr. Phil slammed her on television (not surprising) but now even Larry Flynt, porno king/publisher of Hustler magazine, one of the sleazier skin mags out there, disses her big time! You know you're doing something wrong when even he has contempt for you!
