Melisa Fluhr, editor of the children's interior design blog ProjectNursery, is back with another bag that is perfect for both fans of Spiderman, and those who want something a bit more spooky while they trick-or-treat. Here are her tricks:

My oldest has been dreaming of becoming Spiderman for the past four months now. So what better than to surprise him with a spider inspired Halloween loot bag to complement his costume. (This will also make him stand out from his two other Spiderman friends down the street). Using glow-in-the-dark puffy paints found at Michael's was not only a throw back to my high school days, but a great way to create an extra sense of safety while trick-or-treating after dark!

This adorable paint bucket comes to us from Kate Landers, the woman behind the classic children's party firm Kate Lander's Events. Kate's event themes and design, as well as her lines of custom party ware and table ware, bring back old-fashioned birthday party charm. Here are her tricks:

Living in New England I wanted a more waterproof container for treats (note: inside isn't waterproof when lid is off!). Therefore, the plastic paint can seemed like the perfect choice. It is also highly customizable – you can embellish with glitter paper, a monogram decal, even fabric instead of paper! It holds the perfect amount of candy, and can be designed in whatever colors needed to match your costume.

I will be using my trick or treat container not only for loot Halloween night, but to hand out as Halloween favors to our neighbors as well, full of tricks and treats!

Our first bag comes to us from Melisa Fluhr, editor of the children's interior design blog ProjectNursery. The mom of two lil boys lives in Los Angeles where she is also a partner at Little Apple Design. Be inspired by her treat.

This mummy bag is super simple. I already had the black bag and the first aid tape was in my bathroom cupboard. My toddler loves nothing more than to play with a roll of tape so this was a great opportunity for him. This is a fun, no mess project a tot can help start with a little guidance.

Candy Alternatives Found in My Tot's Trick-or-Treat Bag

The night of fright has passed, but while sorting through my kid's candy, I unearthed a couple of fun and inexpensive, non-candy items that I'll keep in mind while passing out party bags in the months ahead.

  • Jingle Bell Spider — a toy spider crafted from jingle bells, beads and ribbon that children can enjoy all year.
  • Multi-color retractable pen key-chain — the small pens are right up a lil artist's alley as they can hook the writing utensil to their backpack and not worry about toting their pencil pouch.
  • Mini-packs of pretzels — the whole wheat treat keeps kids snacking on something other than candy.
  • Placemat — the inexpensive mats keep children happy, tables clean and can be used again and again.
  • Festive cup — youngsters can use them for drinking or for storing their treasures.
  • Coloring book — provides hours of tot entertainment and artistic expression.
  • Did your child collect any candy alternatives?
