Is Our Generation More Apt to Talk About Miscarriage?

The thin pink line may appear when a woman pees on the stick, but a positive test doesn't promise a baby.

The thin pink line may appear when a woman pees on the stick, but a positive test doesn't promise a baby. According to WebMD, about one in four pregnancies (25%) end in miscarriage.

In just the last month, three well-known couples — Pink and Carey Hart, Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon, and Josh and Anna Duggar — have announced an impending pregnancy and a previous miscarriage. Sixty-one percent of moms said they are comforted knowing they aren't the only ones who have lost a pregnancy. Do you think discussing the loss openly is unique to our generation?

The Duggars Discuss Miscarriage; Is That Comforting?

Sometimes the great expectations of a pregnancy aren't realized.

Sometimes the great expectations of a pregnancy aren't realized. Though Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar may seem to have found the fountain of fertility as evidenced by their 19 children, the parents lost a pregnancy (years ago) after having their firstborn. Sadly, Josh Duggar and his wife, Anna, also suffered a miscarriage a few months back. In sharing the happy news of their current pregnancy with a second child, the couple shared their experience. One report said:

"I was very sad," Anna says. "Josh was a big encouragement to me. It helped us go through the heartbreak to learn that 30 or 40 percent of pregnancies end in miscarriage. That was comforting in some ways."

Does knowing that miscarriage isn't uncommon comfort you as well?

Josh and Anna Duggar Decided on Baby Name!

Will Meredith Veira be disappointed?

Will Meredith Veira be disappointed? The newswoman joked on air that she'd give Josh and Anna Duggar a nice baby gift if the couple went with the letter "M" and named their child after her. While Josh's parents, Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar (best known for their show 18 Kids and Counting) have named all of their offspring with the letter "J," the expectant couple aren't so sure they'll stick to one part of the alphabet.

Perhaps, they honored the soon-to-be daddy's mother by using the first letter of her moniker for the grandbaby's name. The much-anticipated bundle of joy, set to arrive on Oct. 20, will go by Mackynzie Renée.
