OnSugar Blog: Just Another Daddy Day

Moms aren't the only ones who like to think out loud.

Moms aren't the only ones who like to think out loud. Plenty of dads do too! The following post is the first entry on Paulblanchard's new OnSugar blog, Being 'Daddy'.

I decided I would start this blog to share some of my experiences with others who may face the same challenges as I. Being a single father is no bowl of cherries. Especially when you have a tweenage daughter.

Believe me when I say "there is a lot of back-story!" to me, who I am, and what brought me to this place in my life. For now, I am going to keep this simple. I was an absentee father for many years, and only by the grace of God did I 1) realize I could change and, 2) realize there was a need for the change. Not only for me but for my children.

Today I am proud to be called Daddy, and what's better . . . my kids are proud to call me Daddy.

Tell Mommy: What Does Your Husband Do Better?

Does the daddy in your life ever throw your parenting skills a much welcomed curve ball?

Does the daddy in your life ever throw your parenting skills a much welcomed curve ball? An expectant Sugar staffer recently shared an experience that almost everyone can relate to. She said:

"I've always deemed myself the so-called baby whisperer between my husband and me. But over the weekend while playing with our seven-month-old niece, he was able to bring more giggles and smiles to her face than anyone in the house. As it turns out, my hubby has the uncanny ability to make noises and faces silly enough to drive anyone to laughter, but especially those still wearing diapers. Knowing that he is able to forgo his manliness in an effort to make a baby smile is enough to melt my heart, and it also gets me excited to see him bring endless smiles to our little one when she arrives."

Many women pride themselves in their inherent ways with children, but men do too. Tell mommy what your husband is better at when it comes to the kiddos.

Tell Mommy: Do You Hide Fights and Squabbles from the Kids?

The recent A Night to Remember episode of Mad Men featured a serious post dinner party meltdown from the perfect on the outside, tormented on the inside, housewife Betty.

The recent A Night to Remember episode of Mad Men featured a serious post dinner party meltdown from the perfect on the outside, tormented on the inside, housewife Betty.

Betty's fit was a long time coming (what with Don cheating on her and treating her like a child), but the mom in me empathized with her reaction the next morning.

She sat at the breakfast table with her two little ones, smoking a cigarette (it couldn't have been 8 a.m. yet!) in the dress she wore the night before. Though she didn't say a thing and her husband didn't acknowledge her while the kids happily said goodbye to daddy, the scene presented tension that was surely being absorbed — even if subconsciously — by the tots. Do you and your partner try and hide your disagreements from your children and if so, how do you manage the tension when the kids are around?

In the Spotlight: Geri Halliwell's Daddy Gets a Puppy Cut

Summer's finally here! 'Tis the season when many pet owners with long-haired animals choose blunter, cooler styles.

Summer's finally here! 'Tis the season when many pet owners with long-haired animals choose blunter, cooler styles. Take Daddy here for example. The beloved Pom of Geri Halliwell had longer locks just one month ago, but when she took her pooch for a walk yesterday in London, he had a shorter "puppy trim." Choosing this kind of hairdo is a great way to give dogs a coat that's less toasty in the sun . . . and more low maintenance for you! Which Parent Does Your Baby Look Like?

Jennifer Garner was on Oprah promoting Juno and discussing her adorable lil Voilet recently. When Oprah asked Jennifer who Violet looked like, the proud mama said:

That’s the little secret if you really think about it — we could be brother and sister. I wish I hadn’t just pointed that out on national television, but it’s true, we do.

We do have to admit that Jen and Ben can look a bit similar, but it's hard to deny that Violet is the spitting image of her gorgeous mother.
