Over the weekend, Washington's most famous wee ones — Malia, 10, and Sasha, 7, Obama accompanied daddy Barack and mama Michelle, on a historical jaunt. The president-elect and his family took a whistle-stop train trip from Philadelphia to Washington. The soon-to-be first daughters dressed down in sweaters, jackets, sneakers and boots for Saturday's journey. Then they got decked out in black tights, tweed and Winter white coats to keep warm during Sunday's festivities at the 'We Are One: The Obama Inaugural Celebration At The Lincoln Memorial'. We can't wait to see what fashionable ensembles the two have in store for Tuesday!
The inaugural festivities are not only focused on the swearing in ceremony and balls that will take place tomorrow, the Obama-Biden transition team has designated today as the nation's first National Day of Service. The President-elect and Vice-President-elect will be participating in several DC-area projects and are encouraging Americans to go into their communities and volunteer in a variety of ways - from donating blood at a local hospital, to cleaning neighborhood parks or working at a soup kitchen. There's no time like the present to introduce your tots the importance of giving back to your community. If you are still looking for opportunities in your area, be sure to check out the USA Service site, where you can search for activities by proximity to your home.
Tell Mommy, what are you doing to celebrate the National Day of Service?
A booklet of personal phone numbers and email addresses has proven too tempting for many New York parents who use or abuse their children's school directories for their own benefit. Rather than planning playdates and organizing classroom snack schedules, moms and pops are using the resource to send political mailings, real estate listings and fundraising inquiries.
Have you used your child's school directory for other reasons?
One Michigan daddy has to pony up the cost of his daughter's medical expenses for her birth ($3,800) or marry her mama. Gary Johnson plans to wed JaeLyn's mother, Rebecca Witt, but the couple wants to do it on their own accord and are struggling financially. One report said:
The Michigan Legislature amended the state's paternity act five years ago to waive birthing costs for a father, if he married the child's mother. A year later, Witt gave birth to JaeLyn. The state paid for the hospital costs because Witt was on Medicaid at the time and is now trying to recover the money."
Unless the father presents a marriage certificate he has to pay. What is your opinion of the paternity act that is seen as a marriage incentive for moms and dads?
Pogo sticks provided endless hours of entertainment for my siblings and friends when we were growing up, so I started jumping for joy (though I could never quite balance on the stick!) when I spotted this Pogo Stick tee ($20).
The casual top has a vintage-meets-skater-kid feel to it and is perfect for playdates. It may take a few tries to convince your modern kids to drop the Wii or take off the Heelys and hop on the good old Pogo stick, but I guarantee giggles when you do.
