Cape Aside, the Qualities That Make a Woman a Super Mom
She may not have a cape, but the Super Mom possesses powers that leave the rest of us mere mortals in the dust. After reading OnSugar blogger Carri's post, Confessions of a (Not so) Super Mom, it became apparent that moms everywhere encounter this wonder woman on a regular basis. Are you the Super Mom in your community? Check out my list to find out!
- Your clothes are never accessorized with caked-on oatmeal and dried baby snot.
- A hiccup in the daily schedule doesn’t faze you, it just means more time with your wonderful tots.
- Hosting a spur of the moment playdate doesn’t send you on a 10-minute whirlwind-cleaning spree because your home is already spotless.
- Your children’s clothes are organized by size, season, and color so they never outgrow an item before having worn it.
- You are the first one at the school play, dance recital, or soccer game with your camera around your neck and your Flip cam ready to go.

More Baby Products I Wish They Sold in the US
The overseas baby product envy continues! While stores here in the US are continuously stocking up on new products, few compare to what I'm eyeing oversees. Check out these five products that I hope make their way to the US in the near future!
Bye, Bye Handyman! More British Moms Assembling Cribs
The movies often show an expectant mother resting in a rocker while her husband struggles to put the crib together. Reality doesn't always work that way! In the age of DIY television and shows like Extreme Home Makeover, a growing number of other families are pulling out their drills and getting to work. According to a study by BabyChild.org.uk, 41 percent of the surveyed mamas-to-be built their lil one's furniture on their own because, "their partner was not getting it done." In my case, I was lucky because the store that delivered our crib assembled it for free. How did your room get set up?

SJP's Twins Know a Thing or Two About Shoes, Too
Proving that the apples don't fall far from the tree, Marion and Tabitha Broderick, 1, were spotted holding, and chewing on, colorful wooden shoes this morning. While they're not the Manolos and Louboutins Sarah Jessica Parker fancies, the twins' choice in play footwear was a wise one. Plan Toys' Tie-Up Shoes ($8) are designed to teach kids how to lace their shoes and are made from eco-friendly, chemical-free rubberwood. We bet tots have used them to teethe, too.
Motion Sensor Pajamas Let Parents Relax While Baby Sleeps
New parents often hover over sleeping babies to keep an eye on every breath their lil ones take. The thought of SIDS can make even a calm mom worry. A Virginia company has announced plans to sell biosensor pajamas (sort of a cross between a onesie and the Angelcare Movement Monitor) early next year. Exmobaby will come with rechargeable wireless transmitters that snap into newborns' clothes and then use wireless technology to feed detailed heart rate, emotional state, and activity level information to parents' cell phones or computers through home wireless networks. How do you feel about attaching babies to these transmitters?
Mom Talk: The Toughest Part of Working While Raising Kids
Moms need to work it, even when it's not easy! Some career driven mamas are in a constant juggle as they try to keep their home, work, and personal lives in motion. We asked our moms the toughest part. And Twitter follower @CathiThalia said, "Have you got all day?"
- Finding balance: As akseymour said, "It's hard to be up all night with a sick child and then be coherent at work. It's also hard to have a stressful day at work and separate that from your kids when you get home."
- Guilt: Facebook fan Alisha McWhorter expressed it best, "I love my little girl and there are days I feel guilty I don't get to be with her. And guilty that I know I need a job to help me stay sane and balanced. But then I am reminded that I am modeling for my little girl, and I want her to see that you can be a mommy and a working woman all at once, and do them both well."
- Finding proper care: Twitter follower @xx_ajp_xx told us that leaving your child in someone else's care was the toughest part.
- Exhuastion: As Facebook fan Tricia Talerico said, "I'm always tired [and] don't get anything done until my son goes to sleep for the night. Then I stay up late so I can get 'me' time."
- Going with the flow: LilSugar pointed out that a mama could have her entire day planned out to the minute, but "then something happens and it all goes haywire!" erniew echoed the same sentiment, "I am trying to control things less and just go with the flow. Be less temperamental and irritated and more relaxed/in tune with what is happening right at that moment."
Quarterback Drew Brees Won't Know When His Wife's in Labor
When the pangs of labor begin, some mamas scream — but Brittany Brees won't. The wife of Super Bowl MVP Drew Brees said she won't tell her husband she's in labor if he's playing football. On last night's 60 Minutes, the expectant couple discussed their birthing plan for their second child:
"He's not going to get a call ... He's not going to know," Brittany says. "If I go into labor, I'm going to get the drugs and just pretend everything’s fine."
That's fine by Drew. "Even if she was on her way to the hospital, water had broke, she's about to give birth, she would make up some elaborate story to make me comfortable and at ease," says the 2010 Super Bowl MVP. "So I go play the football game and I come home and there might be a new baby boy there waiting for me," Brees added.
Tots Can Hip Hop Across the House With Play Rugs

BabySugar Diaries: The Worrying Never Stops
I'll never forget a conversation I had with my parents on the day my first child was born. After nurses came to take my son for his hearing test, I turned to them and expressed concern about him passing the test. My father gave a knowing look to my mom and said, "Welcome to the next 18 years of your life!" My mom said, "18 years? Welcome to worrying about your children for the rest of your life!"
Though I'm reminded of the exchange daily as I nurse playground injuries and hurt feelings, I thought back recently when I received one of those email chain letters that promised me a life of happiness if I sent it on to a dozen other people. The message, titled "Worry," told the fictional story of a mother thinking she had passed the point of worry each time her child passed a milestone, only to be faced with a new set of worries. Once her children have tots of their own, the then-grandmother's concern shifts to her grandchildren and the process begins again. It made me wonder if parents are sentenced to a lifetime of worry?
Moms Share Their Family's Favorite "Go-To" Dinners
The period between after school and bedtime is bursting with extra-curricular activities, homework, baths, and dinner. Moms usually have a standby meal they can whip up in no time. We asked our community to share their "go-to meals."
- Pasta with meatballs or sauce was on most menus, with Facebook fan Krystal Cox telling us: "It's easy, they love it and I can do a lot of hiding of veggies in the meatballs and sauce!"
- Amber512 keeps things simple with sandwiches. "Go-to meals for when my nieces and nephews come over will always be sandwiches. Nothing simpler. We only do something more fancy if we have plenty of time. Otherwise, PB&Js it is!"
- Anonymous reader Phoenix Rising gave us her recipe for Tator Tot Casserole.
- Facebook fan Bernadette Dee turns to the packaged goods at Trader Joe's. "Trader Joe's Potstickers. Is that cheating?"
- RoaringSilence shared her recipe for honey mustard chicken with rice and green beans. "Throw honey, mustard, salt, pepper and lemon juice together, pour over chicken in a baking dish and bake that. I usually take canned green beans with that which I pan fry with some onions, bacon bits and slivered almonds."
- Snookyx said, "I don't have kids but whenever I baby sit after work I make spicy garlic lime chicken and roasted potatoes."
- An anonymous reader shared her recipe for chicken "risotto." "I use regular rice as it cooks so much more quickly and is less labor intensive than arborio. I toss in pre-cooked chicken and some mixed veg and a can of chopped tomatoes."
- Girl Jen said, "Pan-fried meat (salmon or chicken) with steamed veggies."
More Postpartum Body Surprises Women Might Not Expect
Bodies change especially after giving birth! From excess skin to ample cushion, post-delivery bodies continue to evolve. Here are a couple more surprises that moms might see.
- Broken blood vessels: Mamas who had particularly hard labors may find their eyes bloodshot and their faces scattered with broken blood vessels after their lil one arrives. Extended periods of pushing can cause tiny capillaries in the eyes, face, and chest to burst with visible results. In most cases, the red marks subside within a few days.
- Dry skin: There's a reason experienced moms tell expectant ladies to pack lip balm. Between deep breathing and pushing, a laboring mama's lips may dry out. After delivery, nursing moms often find their skin particularly dry as the body uses excess moisture for milk production.
- Hair loss: Remember that beautiful flowing mane of hair you tossed around throughout your pregnancy? Be prepared to say goodbye to those extra strands and then some. The roller coaster of postpartum hormones can cause hair to fall out, leaving many mamas with hairline wisps.
- Bigger feet: The swelling you experienced during pregnancy may have subsided, but your four-inch stilettos may not fit again. Many women find their feet grow up to half a size during their pregnancies, with no signs of shrinking afterward.
- Better body: Some postpartum bodies shrink back to their pre-pregnancy form or end up being stronger and fitter than they were before.
Australian Midwife Pushes For Formula by Prescription
How far would you go to feed your baby formula? Formula feeding, though pricey, is as easy as popping open a can or scooping out some powder, but some breastfeeding advocates want to make it more difficult by requiring moms to get a prescription for the liquid gold.
An Australian doctor of midwifery, who now has the support of the Australian Breastfeeding Association, is asking stores to remove formula from their shelves and place it behind the pharmacy counter so parents have to speak to their pediatricians before purchasing it for their tots. According to Dr. Jennifer James:
It's about looking at ways of ensuring that women get the support and the education they need when they need it. Having to get some sort of prescription ... then the woman is sitting with a health professional who can go through her breastfeeding problems and set up a plan of action to help her achieve her goal of successfully breastfeeding her baby.

Being the Single Sibling of Twins Can Be Doubly Difficult
Like peas in a pod. That's how people often describe the relationship between twins who share everything from a birthday to clothes, friends, and toys. But where does another sibling fit into the mix? The extra brother or sister to a set of twins may feel left out when it comes to the bond that his or her siblings created in the womb. Does a brother or sister of twins have as close of a relationship with twin siblings as he or she would if the twosome had been single births?
Birthday Number Shirts Add Up to Big Celebrations
