14 Gifts You Should Never Give at Graduation

Lucky magazine is one of our favorite sources for great shopping tips.

Lucky magazine is one of our favorite sources for great shopping tips. We're thrilled to share this fabulous story from our friends at Lucky!

Getting a diploma is exciting, but so is unwrapping the congratulatory presents that come with it. That is, until you come across one of these things below, which are basically the opposite of superpretty interview shoes and envelopes laced with $20 bills. Instead, they're either boring or bizarre graduation presents (or just not occasion-appropriate), and we wouldn't suggest buying any of them for a recent grad. Unless, of course, that graduate is really obsessed with snow globes, in which case, more power to you.

Whose Met Gala Dress Cost the Most?

Lucky magazine is one of our favorite sources for great shopping tips.

Lucky magazine is one of our favorite sources for great shopping tips. We're thrilled to share this fabulous story from our friends at Lucky!

Last night's Met Gala red carpet was an undeniable parade of punk pretty, from Sarah Jessica Parker's awesome and on-theme Philip Treacy mohawk headpiece to Sienna Miller's off-the-chain studded moto jacket. Such ensembles obviously don't come cheap — especially when they're custom-created for their wearers, as most Met Gala looks tend to be. But whose look last night cost the most?

To find out, we turned to Moda Operandi, where a selection of last night's dresses are already available to preorder — including a good handful of our favorites. Fancy getting your hands on Kate Bosworth's sparkly Balmain mini? Prepare to shell out $26,000. How about Elettra Wiedemann's bright and bold Prabal Gurung? That'll be $27,690—$12,495 for the gown, $15,195 for the cape.

But the most expensive dress on offer? That'd be Constance Jablonski's stunning harnessed Wes Gordon creation, priced at $35,610 — more than some luxury automobiles, for those of you keeping score. But remember — Moda only requires that shoppers pay half their bill upfront, so really, you'd only be shelling out $17,805 for the time being. What a bargain!

Would you pay nearly $36,000 to dress like your favorite punked-out celeb? Let us know!

Last week, while sipping a tasty Svedka cocktail and browsing the collection of totally unisex T-shirts with California surfer-inspired graphics in Sandro's latest collaboration with photographer Hugh Holland, we had a thought. While a graphic tee is traditionally saved for those super casual days, these awesome shirts with really cool details could actually be dressed up, or down for a number of different occasions. Which is to say: we've found your perfect summer tee.

12 Things to Buy With J.Crew's New Supersneaky Promo Code

Lucky magazine is one of our favorite sources for great shopping tips. We're thrilled to share this fabulous story from our friends at Lucky!

J.Crew's having a pretty great sale right now, but it's a bit of a stealthy one — something you might miss if you don't have your reading glasses on. I sort of get why their homepage is a giant tribute to Mother's Day — those responsible girls out there are probably already shopping for the May 10 holiday — but this sale is not only more pressing (it started today and only goes through Sunday, April 28), it's also unusually good.

No men's suits or stuff from other labels, i.e. the Barbour jackets or Cambridge Satchel bags, but everything else in store and online is fair game. All you have to do is type in the promo code, SPRINGBEST, for 25 percent off at checkout. Which really deserves a flashier, grander announcement than the size 8 font that's tucked below the navigation bar, don't you think?

Shopping Mad Men: So Many Neck Scarves!

Lucky magazine is one of our favorite sources for great shopping tips. We're thrilled to share this fabulous story from our friends at Lucky!

Mad Men's sixth season is now officially in high gear and its third episode, "The Collaborators" made us want to weep for the women on the show. Infidelity, miscarriages and brothels made this week's viewing both titillating and heartbreaking, as only Mad Men can. Megan deals with a personal tragedy, Peggy is bullied at work, and, of course, Don continues to behave like a big smarmy jerk (with flashbacks to boot). Like Don's philandering, the '60s glamour was also unstoppable this week (so many neck scarves!), which is why we shopped some of our favorite looks.

We dropped everything to watch Game of Thrones' triumphant return to HBO. For months we waited, wondering about the welfare of our favorite dragons, the seemingly alcoholic Queen Cersei and the fate of young Arya Stark. While watching in our House Targaryen hoodie, we decided to craft our own spin on which character has the claim to the Iron Throne. Everybody thinks they deserve it, but if you look at things through a sartorial lens, some are more suited than others. Each week, we'll choose who gets to rule over the seven kingdoms, based purely on style and street cred.

WATCH: Karlie Kloss Shows Off Her Modeling Skills For Moda Operandi

If Moda Operandi's prestigious list of affiliated designers, high profile Artistic Director Taylor Tomasi Hill or newly launched in-season boutique didn't tip you off, the luxury e-tailer doesn't do things halfway. Even it's latest campaign star, model-of-the-moment Karlie Kloss, is the best of the best.

For the website's new "La Vie En Rose" campaign, double K took time out from her busy House of Style shooting schedule, Momofuku "kookie" baking and editorial shooting to pose in some of spring best styles, all available to order on the website now. (Her floral headpiece, alas, is not. But we think it would be fairly easy to DIY, should you have a glue gun, bouquet and an afternoon with nothing to do).

Topshop Unique Arrives at Need Supply

Topshop's higher-end label, Topshop Unique, is moving up in the world. As of yesterday, select pieces from the label's Spring/Summer 2013 range are available on Need Supply's website, making it the first American e-tailer to carry the line. (Save for the British chain's USA platform, of course. But there, most sizes have already sold out.)

Looking at the collection, it's easy to see why the Virginia-based store needed to supply it. (Sorry, couldn't help myself.) Inspired by Kate Moss in the '90s, it does indeed capture the super's famously effortless style with slouchy shapes and in an all neutral palette. Unfortunately, however, it won't make you sound like this when you read 50 Shades of Grey.

Shop the MADE For Macy's Impulse Collection

Lucky magazine is one of our favorite sources for great shopping tips. We're thrilled to share this fabulous story from our friends at Lucky!

MADE is sort of like the CFDA. The company sponsors fashion designers and helps produce runway shows — but instead of championing household names who show at Lincoln Center, it works mostly with up-and-coming labels at Milk Studios, the Fashion Week venue for smaller productions. It's the downtown answer to the CFDA, in a sense, and not just because Milk is literally downtown. MADE tends to work with more avant-garde brands. It's more subversive.

Now, though, the MADE team have become designers — not just behind-the-scenes characters — thanks to their inaugural collection for Macy's Impulse. It seems like the fashion industry insiders basically created what they'd want to wear with bedhead and messy eyeliner to the latest underground bar, and it's predictably cool: leather skirts, bomber jackets, track pants. The 24 pieces have the sort of swagger we'd expect from the Alexander-Wang-wearing employees we see around Milk throughout Fashion Week — at a fraction of designer prices.

When it comes to downtown-approved, accessibly-priced offerings for all seasons, Nasty Gal's always had our back—and now, the e-tailer's taking on the beach. Inspired by '90s surf gear, Sophia Amoruso's store's Spring 2013 lookbook introduces something entirely new into the Nasty Gal mix: swimwear. Styled alongside neoprene moto jackets and flare-skirted, zip-front scuba dresses, the images feature the brand's all-new cutout maillots, while this morning's press release promises will "elicit out-of-the-ordinary tan lines." Five Rose Gold-Accented Pieces For Low-Key Glamour

As obsessed as I am with all things sparkly, I’m ready to retire the glitz (now that it's post-holiday season)—but not without losing the glamour. Maybe that’s why I’ve been favoring gold’s slightly-less-dazzling-but-just-as-alluring sister: rose gold. Accent your outfit with just a hint of the pink-toned metal for an elegant look that isn’t too flashy.

Rihanna's River Island Collection Will Be 'Sassy,' Inspired by London's Cool Kids

Lucky magazine is one of our favorite sources for great shopping tips.

Lucky magazine is one of our favorite sources for great shopping tips. We're thrilled to share this fabulous story from our friends at Lucky!

We can't wait to see Rihanna's designs for UK High Street label River Island come down the runway at next month's London Fashion Week. To tease the forthcoming collab, Vogue UK posted the clip below, in which the Barbadian songstress attends model fittings and examines collection sketches with her co-designer Adam Selman.

The most interesting takeaway from the video? It seems Rihanna's range was largely inspired by the personal style of normal London teens. "The high-end designers are inspired by these kids," she explains. "They say what's cool, the high-end designers go and design it, and I feel like . . . why not go to the source? To be ahead of the trend, and have something inspirational and new and fresh?" Incidentally, the kids in question are exactly who we predict will go crazy for Riri's River Island looks first. Along with us, of course.

Curiosity about Carrie Bradshaw's family — only vaguely referenced in HBO's Sex and the City—didn't make me watch the premiere of The Carrie Diaries, the CW's much-anticipated SATC prequel, last night. Neither did any interest in her pre-Miranda, Samantha and Charlotte crew, or non-Mr. Big boyfriends. Still, I made the effort to close my MacBook, stash my iPhone and pay close attention for one extremely important reason: the fashion. Nay, the fashion as interpreted by Eric Daman, the show's costume designer.

Kate Middleton vs. Kim Kardashian: Whose Wardrobe Wins?

Lucky magazine is one of our favorite sources for great shopping tips.

Lucky magazine is one of our favorite sources for great shopping tips. We're thrilled to share this fabulous story from our friends at Lucky!

When Kate Middleton accepted Prince William's proposal in 2010, she was probably prepared for the media storm that followed—one does not marry royalty without anticipating some interviews. Her instant fashion icon status, though—solidified by the infamous sapphire blue dress she wore to announce the big news—might have been a bigger surprise.

While the Duchess always chooses ensembles that are polished and flattering, her picks are hardly those of a woman seeking attention. The bulk of her outfits are comprised of sold-out items she's worn on multiple occasions, making it very hard for brands to capitalize on her influence. Also, according to one of Kate's favorite designers, Roland Mouret, those who admire her style don't necessarily want to copy it.

"You don't see hundreds of women running around looking like her," he was cited as saying in the Telegraph. "To be honest, we're more likely to get orders on a dress that Kim Kardashian's worn."

Wait . . . what? Reality star Kim K. has more advertising clout than an actual royal?

Journey Into the Woods With Burberry (and Cara Delevingne)

Lucky magazine is one of our favorite sources for great shopping tips. We're thrilled to share this fabulous story from our friends at Lucky!

From Arizona Muse's hot air balloon ride for Louis Vuitton to Coach's stop-motion Winter wonderland short, it's tough to find a fashion film we don't adore. But Burberry's latest clip, set in a mystical forest and showcasing the British heritage brand's Fall 2012 collection, somehow manages to combine a handful of our absolute favorite things: woodland creatures, Cara Delevingne and Marina and the Diamonds (Marina's "Numb" serves as the mini-flick's soundtrack). Oh, and hot air balloons make an appearance in this one, too.

Check out the video below, in which models clad in Burberry coats turn the forest floor into a makeshift runway—before disappearing into dramatic little bursts of golden leaves. It's pretty cool.

Alexa Chung Wants to Maje You Up

Lucky magazine is one of our favorite sources for great shopping tips.

Lucky magazine is one of our favorite sources for great shopping tips. We're thrilled to share this fabulous story from our friends at Lucky!

Grammatically speaking, "maje" is both a noun and an adjective. There's "Maje," the French label and "maje," a shortened version of "major," used to describe something especially so. The two can even be used together, like: "That cobalt jacquard Maje coat is so MAJE!"

But the maje wordplay involving Maje doesn't stop there — the brand just coined the term "majed." Which, if we understand the video below, means to get styled by Alexa Chung, the very maje face of Maje, in NYC with maje Maje clothes. Confused yet? Watch the following clip, it'll all make sense.
