Who's at Fault When a Tour Company Offers Handicapped Disney "Guides"?

There's a new secret way to cut the lines at Disney, but it involves a serious moral sacrifice.

There's a new secret way to cut the lines at Disney, but it involves a serious moral sacrifice. The NY Post reports that a wealthy set of visitors has been hiring disabled "tour guides" to accompany their families to the Orlando theme park, affording them access to handicapped entrances, thereby bypassing the lines for rides. The tour company, called Dream Tours Florida, was uncovered by Dr. Wednesday Martin, a social anthropologist who discovered the disturbing trend while researching her book, Primates of Park Avenue. "It's insider knowledge that very few have and share carefully," Martin said. Apparently, you need a referral to even get through to the business, as Dream Tours' number is unlisted. Disney allows each wheelchair or scooter-bound visitor to bring up to six guests to an accessible entrance for each attraction. A woman who employed Dream Tours' services told the Postthat she hired a guide to accompany her family of four through the park in a motorized scooter with a "handicap" sign on it, and the group received special access throughout the park. We're pretty sure that we can all agree that this practice is reprehensible, but whom do you think is most at fault? Sound off!

Is Abercrombie & Fitch the Bully of Teen Clothing Retailers?

Would you let your kids shop at a store that goes against the values you're trying to instill in them?

Would you let your kids shop at a store that goes against the values you're trying to instill in them? Recently, inflammatory comments made by Abercrombie & Fitch CEO Mike Jeffries in a 2006 interview have been recirculating on the web, instigating anger and outrage amongst the brand's would-be consumers and moms looking out for the best interest of their kids. According to Huffington Post, Jeffries made the following statement in a 2006 interview with Salon.com:

In every school, there are the cool and popular kids, and then there are the not-so-cool kids. Candidly, we go after the cool kids. We go after the attractive all-American kid with a great attitude and a lot of friends. A lot of people don't belong [in our clothes], and they can't belong. Are we exclusionary? Absolutely. Those companies that are in trouble are trying to target everybody: young, old, fat, skinny. But then you become totally vanilla. You don't alienate anybody, but you don't excite anybody, either.

Abercrombie's sweet spot has always been the teen and preteen market, which makes Jeffries's comments especially alarming. At a time when kids are at their most impressionable, most self-conscious, and most susceptible to being teased or alienated by their peers, what sort of a message does this send?

For years, the brand — which encompasses an "Abercrombie Kids" line — has garnered attention for its controversial practices and marketing methodology. According to the Salon.com article, in 2004, Abercrombie paid $40 million to settle a class-action lawsuit brought by minority employees who felt discriminated against. In 2005, a group of high school girls made the media rounds in protest of t-shirts with phrases like "Do I make you look fat?" and "Who needs a brain when you have these?" And now, Jeffries's candid commentary is igniting a new flame.

What do you think? Do the CEO's remarks mean your family will be boycotting the Abercrombie & Fitch brand?

Infant Breeze Baby Butt Fan: Ga Ga or Gag?

Any mom who's ever dealt with diaper rash knows that it's no fun.

Any mom who's ever dealt with diaper rash knows that it's no fun. While the most common treatment is a cream like Desitin or Aquaphor, there's now a product that aims to stop the problem before it starts. It's the (drumroll, please) Baby Butt Fan. The "world's first diapering fan," which can be yours for $20, was designed to dry off your baby's freshly wiped bottom quickly and effectively to prevent diaper rash.

A soothing, gentle breeze aimed at your baby's bum doesn't sound like such a bad idea, and preventing diaper rash is a much smarter approach than waiting until it happens to treat it. But in looking at the Baby Butt Fan, we have to ask, what's the difference between this and any other portable fan? What do you think? Is the Baby Butt Fan a gimmick or a great way to promote rash-free diaper-wearing?

Christy Turlington on What You Need to KNOW About Mother's Day

Christy Turlington is a force to be reckoned with.

Christy Turlington is a force to be reckoned with. After a serious health scare following the birth of her daughter, Grace, she became immersed in maternal health issues on a global scale, and founded Every Mother Counts to raise awareness about the issue of maternal mortality. Earlier this week, Turlington served on a panel at the Mom+Social conference hosted by the United Nations Foundation here in New York. We were lucky enough to chat with the model, mom, and fierce advocate for mothers across the world.

POPSUGAR Moms: This year, Every Mother Counts has shifted its campaign focus from “No Mother’s Day” to “Know Mother’s Day.” Can you tell us a bit about the new push and what the focus this year is?

Christy Turlington: It’s really always been about creating more awareness, because that’s our biggest goal: to spread the information. Once you learn what’s happening, learn the statistics, you kind of can’t help but want to engage and get involved. So we’re trying to move the dial in that sense. More action, more efforts, and more collective energy around this issue that touches so many people.

This time of year, women are being marketed to at such a ridiculous rate. There’s roughly 15 billion dollars being spent on moms around Mother’s Day in the US alone. What that could do for global health would be just tremendous.

Click to read more about Christy's fight for global maternal health, how she controls her kids' access to social media, and what the Turlington-Burns clan is up to for Mother's Day!

Show Your Support For Sandy Hook Moms This Mother's Day

This Mother's Day, amidst the wishes for quality time with our kids and breakfast in bed, we're remembering the moms who faced unfathomable tragedy this year.

This Mother's Day, amidst the wishes for quality time with our kids and breakfast in bed, we're remembering the moms who faced unfathomable tragedy this year. On Dec. 14, 2012, 26 lives were lost in the senseless act of violence that occurred at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

"For too many mothers across the country, Mother's Day is sadly not just a celebration of their motherhood, but also a time to reflect on the lives of the beautiful children they have lost due to violence," said Tim Makris, executive director of Sandy Hook Promise. "No mother should have to bury her child. That is why this year we are asking the public to stand up across the country and pledge to help prevent more mothers from suffering this senseless loss."

While a loss of such epic proportion can make everyone around it feel helpless, Sandy Hook Promise has a small way to show our support. The foundation created a digital ecard with the message "We mourn your loss and promise to do all we can to prevent tragedies like this from happening ever again" and space for you to write your own note of support. We encourage you to sign the card, share it on social media, and pass it along to friends and family. Let these very special moms know that they have not been forgotten, five months after suffering from their unimaginable losses.
