Backstage at French designer Sophie Theallet's Fall 2013 fashion show, makeup artist Tom Pecheux used MAC Cosmetics to create a beautiful look in a "casual, functional way." After examining the feminine qualities and colors of the clothing, Tom wanted a face that was charming, polished, and glowing to complement the collection.

The look: An "old money" makeup look that doesn't scream show-off.
Who would wear it: Any type of woman, as long as she is comfortable in her own body and has a little bit of style.
Key products: MAC creamy blue shadow mixed with warm bronze shimmer on the lids for a reptilian feel.

Simple, Texturized Hair Speaks Volumes at Victoria Beckham

For Fall 2013, Victoria Beckham wanted the beauty aspect of her fashion show to reflect a confident and beautiful woman that has real hair.

For Fall 2013, Victoria Beckham wanted the beauty aspect of her fashion show to reflect a confident and beautiful woman that has real hair. She is the kind of girl who wears exquisite clothing that speaks volumes, so her makeup should enhance her natural features. Her nails are buffed and shaped, and her hair is highly texturized and well-thought-out, yet it has a new kind of ease to it that strays far away from bouncy blowouts and high shine.

The look: Nothing overdone — a polished face, hair styled in a low ponytail, and nails buffed and shaped
Overheard backstage: Where is David? Have you seen little Harper yet?
Key products: BaByliss Volare Hair Dryer and Redken Diamond Oil

Psycho Glamour With Swagger at Costello Tagliapietra

For Fall 2013, designers Jeffrey Costello and Robert Tagliapietra of Costello Tagliapietra drew their inspiration from the future.

For Fall 2013, designers Jeffrey Costello and Robert Tagliapietra of Costello Tagliapietra drew their inspiration from the future. Using a color palette filled with purples, blues, pinks, and greens, the beauty style was a reflection of an uptight woman who is finally trying to have some fun. The makeup look was created by Maki for MAC, hair was developed by lead stylist Nelson Vercher for the Rita Hazan Salon and nails were polished by Michelle Saunders for Essie.

The look: Highly texturized hair fastened in a low ponytail, metallic purple nails, and bright, matte fuchsia lips
The inspiration: Psycho glamour, but also pretty and slightly sensual
Who would wear it: Anyone with swagger. Think of someone like Natalie Portman, who is intelligent about her beauty

Military Magic Backstage at Topshop Unique

The Autumn/Winter Topshop Unique show was held earlier today at the Old Billingsgate Market in the City of London.

The Autumn/Winter Topshop Unique show was held earlier today at the Old Billingsgate Market in the City of London. With the sunshine peering through the windows (for a change), the backdrop was beautiful, and finally, there was ample space both behind the scenes and inside the actual venue to move around, mingle, and munch on the delectable treats that were offered preshow. Anna Wintour, Alexandra Shulman, Olivia Palermo, Alexa Chung, Pixie Geldof, Poppy Delevigne, and Leigh Lezark all sat in the front row to watch in anticipation.

For this military-inspired collection filled with burgundy, olive, navy, chunky knits, leather, and velvet pieces (my favorite being the leather overalls), the look this season for the clothing, accessories, and beauty was all a bit more grown-up than what we typically see from the brand. Check out all of the exciting looks from backstage in my slideshow here!

Falling pregnant is a beautiful thing, but it requires you to pay extra attention to everything, especially what you eat and how you take care of yourself. Everyone knows that it's important to get enough sleep, get enough exercise, and pamper your growing body. But it's also imperative to keep an eye on the ingredients in the beauty products you use. It may seem silly to worry about your night cream or fake tan, but believe it or not, certain toxins are strong enough to make their way through your skin and into your bloodstream to affect your developing fetus. How To Lighten Hair If Your Color Comes Out Too Dark

Recently, I received an email from a reader who purchased a reputable do-it-at-home hair color.

Recently, I received an email from a reader who purchased a reputable do-it-at-home hair color. Unfortunately, the color was a lot darker than she expected, turning her medium brown hair into an almost black tone, as opposed to the light brown she desired. Have you ever had a gone-too-dark mishap? Check out my tips below to find out how to fix this hair obstacle:

  • If you experience unwanted results from an at-home hair color, immediately call the hotline number on the side or back of the box. The company representative can offer you professional advice on what to do next. Also, if you think there may be something wrong with the dye, it's essential to report it immediately.
  • Know what formula you are buying. Semipermanent or demipermanent colors typically fade a lot faster than permanent colors — and are often more gentle for the home colorist.
  • Use a clarifying shampoo, which is full of color-stripping surfactants. The faster you can get to your freshly-dyed hair, the better. I have also heard of people using dish soap, but I think that's a little extreme. Make sure you deep condition afterwards.

Six Ways To Make Your Lips Look Fuller

You don't need to endure painful injections to have the look of bigger lips.

You don't need to endure painful injections to have the look of bigger lips. You don't necessarily need a lip plumping product, either. Makeup artists rely on tried and true tips to help their clients pump up the volume, and I've got a few of them to share.

Applier beware. Plump lips are one of those mysterious subconscious biological signs of youthfulness and fertility.

(Editor's note: I cannot take responsibility for any additional attention (or children) that may follow as a result of these tips below.)

Beginner

  • Avoid dark lipsticks or glosses. They can make your lips look smaller. Instead, choose a lighter shade to give the illusion of fullness. Also, pick lipsticks with shinier finishes. Shiny reflects light, making lips look even bigger.
  • Brush lips with a baby toothbrush and some lip balm, like the classic ChapStick ($1.90). It's a gentle way to exfoliate and it promotes circulation in the lips, causing a temporary plump.
  • Sweep a tiny dab of light colored gloss only in the middle of your lips, both top and bottom. Try Benefit Her Glossiness in Didn't Hear It From Me ($18). You can also use a lighter glittery gloss such as Wet N Wild MegaBrilliance Lip Gloss in Shimmy Shimmer ($2) or a whitish shimmery powder like Benefit Lust Duster in Snow Bunny ($18) to achieve the same effect.

How To Create an Aspirin Mask for Skin Care

Whether you're feeling the effects of the lousy economy or not, it never hurts to save money.

Whether you're feeling the effects of the lousy economy or not, it never hurts to save money. So you really should know about the aspirin mask: a skin-softening, acne-fighting treatment that costs only a few cents. It's simple, cheap, and effective. Use it as an exfoliating paste, or leave it on your skin for about five minutes as a mask. Either way, you should see brighter, softer skin with less dullness. (That's because the effective ingredient in aspirin is chemically similar to salicylic acid, which helps exfoliate skin.)

For the super-simple aspirin mask "recipe," read more
