Angelina Jolie has undergone a preventive double mastectomy after learning that she was at high risk for breast cancer and ovarian cancer. In an op-ed for The New York Times, Angelina reveals that she made the decision for her family. Angelina opens up about her own mother's death from ovarian cancer at age 56, and how she talks to her kids about their grandmother, saying, "We often speak of 'Mommy's mommy,' and I find myself trying to explain the illness that took her away from us. They have asked if the same could happen to me. I have always told them not to worry, but the truth is I carry a 'faulty' gene, BRCA1, which sharply increases my risk of developing breast cancer and ovarian cancer."
Angelina goes on to describe how the intense process was made easier with Brad by her side:
I am fortunate to have a partner, Brad Pitt, who is so loving and supportive. So to anyone who has a wife or girlfriend going through this, know that you are a very important part of the transition. Brad was at the Pink Lotus Breast Center, where I was treated, for every minute of the surgeries. We managed to find moments to laugh together. We knew this was the right thing to do for our family and that it would bring us closer. And it has.

Stephenie Meyer is the author that brought The Twilight Saga into our lives, but her work takes a different direction in The Host, which centers on an alien invasion. In his new movie Upside Down, Jim Sturgess plays a guy who is facing a pretty big relationship hurdle: his love (Kirsten Dunst) literally lives on another planet, one with gravity that directly opposes that of his own planet. I recently sat down with Sturgess to talk about what it was like to film such a unique sci-fi love story. He admitted that he did get a little nauseated from all the wire work and filming upside down but that it was worth it for a love scene with Dunst that's even better than her iconic upside-down kiss with Tobey Maguire in Spider-Man.
In Upside Down, director Juan Solanas creates a love story set on two neighboring planets with double gravity — a unique concept, to say the least. When I recently sat down with the filmmaker in San Francisco, he talked about where he got the idea for the film and what it was like seeing his dream come to fruition. Watch!
Zach Braff stars in this week's new release Oz the Great and Powerful, but don't expect to see too much of his likeness on the screen. After the short opening sequence in Kansas, Braff spends the rest of the film as an animated flying monkey named Finley. At the film's press day, I chatted with Braff about the "onesie" he had to wear for the blue-screen work, getting into character, and why he spent a lot of time on set in a "torture chamber."
Director Sam Raimi takes us back to the land of Oz in this week's Oz the Great and Powerful, and making a prequel to the 1939 classic is no small feat. I recently sat down with Raimi at the press day for the film, where he sang the praises of his cast and explained why James Franco was the perfect choice to play the titular wizard.
Rachel Weisz plays bad witch Evanora in Oz the Great and Powerful, and the actress had no qualms digging into her dark side to play the role. When I sat down with Weisz at the film's press day, she talked about how much she loved playing the bad girl and what it was like to be transported to Oz. Watch!
A new young adult supernatural book series comes to life with this week's release, Beautiful Creatures. This story follows Lena (Alice Englert), a witch who wreaks havoc in a small Southern town when she falls for the charming Ethan (Alden Ehrenreich). Is it a love story worth seeing in the theater? Check out our review to find out if it's a watch, pass, or a rent!
If you've ever seen a film adaptation of a Nicholas Sparks book (like The Notebook, A Walk to Remember, and Dear John), then you've probably seen some common elements amid all that romance. Check it out before Sparks's newest adaptation, Safe Haven, hits theaters.
