Every year, long distance travel increases by 23 percent during the Christmas to New Year's time frame. Ninety-one percent of that travel is done by car. Though the thought of packing up our kids and braving the traffic is enough to keep many families at home, the joy of seeing them celebrate the holidays with loved ones far away outshines that.

I'm driving to Indiana for the New Year. Ughh.
1nope! all of our family is back is indiana and its too far to drive and too expensive to fly 5 people...so home is where we stay!
2All of our family is in MI and we typically fly there for the holidays. This year, even though we paid over $600/ticket, everyone is especially excited because we have the baby now and the past two years we didn't make it back (last year too pregnant and the year before we got stuck here because of a blizzard). I am eager to see our families, but not excited to travel on crowded planes with a baby. Ugh.
3no we're arent but I put other because I wish I was! My fam's in miami...but we'll be heading over there in the summer for 2 weeks so I just gotta wait!
4My family lives over 8 hours away, and we will be driving there for Christmas. This is my daughter's first Christmas, and so I want my family to be able to celebrate with her! Hopefully the ride goes alright :S
5Not this year. I usually go to WI to visit my family the week after Christmas (we could never afford for the whole family to go) but this year we got a great deal for all of us to go in March instead. So I finally get the full two weeks of vacation with my husband and kids.
6yes, and it was already bad for thanksgiving. Not looking forward to traveling.
7yes, 500 miles. we did it over thanksgiving too. 7 1/2 hours to get there and 13 1/2 to get back
we learned our lesson; no more coming back on sunday's, we need a recovery day so it's saturday drive days from now on.
8yup, going to CO...of course looking forward to the family but i am nervous about the flight..this is the first flight we are taking since my little one became fully mobile, and she is a lap flyer no way were we paying $500 for another seat. should be interesting!
9We are in the same boat, meandtheo! My son is now mobile and it's going to be a nightmare. He hates sitting on laps and it's going to be a long 3 hours from CO to MI. Ugh!
10schnappy..i actually introduced my daughter to crayons and paper this week in anticipation of the flight ( i don't think it is going to help much)! my daughter can sit on a lap for about 10 minutes reading books and then she is off...thankfully SF to Denver is only two and half hours, i feel for you and that extra thirty minutes!! i think there will be a lot of snacks and maybe even a lollipop! good luck!
11we are going to my moms, if 2 hours away can be considered traveling. But my husband wants to go visit his family in Iowa, about a 12 hour trip, in Feb at some point. im not looking forward to it because despite his nephews being there almost every day since birth, the house isnt very baby proof and i DESPISE getting up every 10 seconds to get her out of something, and now that shes mobile, its going to be hellish.
12We are only traveling at max 2 hours away. His mom lives 2 hrs away, his dad 30 mins, and my parents are 1 hour away --- all in different directions though!
13We'll actually go to his mom's after Christmas though.
I WISH I was travelling. Not this year. I'll be 35 weeks pregnant over Christmas, and my Dr. is putting a total stop order on all travel (not even to Sacramento boohoo) after next weekend. So, home bound I am. I'd rather go visit friends or family this year. Ohh well.
14If it's condidered traveling. We're going to my grandparents for Christmas Eve an hour and a half away. But were going with my parents to Carmel the weekend after and that's about a 2hr drive. So not too bad.
