Are You a Sexist Parent?

While growing up, I knew a family that sent their sons to private school and their daughters to public because they didn't want to waste money on the girls' education. Many parents say all is fair between their offspring, but that isn't always the case when it comes to privileges, curfews, and household chores. Are you unintentionally or intentionally sexist to your offspring?

As far as education & oppurtunity goes my hypothetical kids will be equal. As far as curfews & such, Im sure I will be a wee bit stricter on my hypothetical daughter.

No. I don't think that my parents raised us with different rules. My father is a cop and as a cop's daughter there is one rule that everyone needs to know - In a cop's eyes everyone is the same (including his family). The only reason my brother (a year and a half younger than me) gets to stay out later (which he isn't really allowed to do much anymore) is because he goes out with 2 other friends and he is stronger than me. In my family me and my two older sisters are more manly than our little brother and we were all raised the same.

And I'm talking about house rules, curfews, etc.--not schooling, education, or anything like that! Obviously that has always been equal for my mom and her siblings, me and my brother, etc. I have never heard of parents doing that--esp. not anymore!

I remember my mom always saying she was always angry when my grandmother had different rules for her and her sisters then her brothers...she said her whole life she vowed not to do that but the second I came out she knew things would be different then with my brother.I know things have changed but I feel there are some things that are still things that are different in teenage years and stuff. My cousin says when you have a boy you only have to worry about one penis and when you have a girl you have to worry about 1,000! I think that's a good way to look at it! I didn't mind have more strict rules then my brother, or helping my mom inside the house when my brother helped my dad outside...but I'm very traditional sometimes!

I don't have kids but my dad is definitely sexists towards me. My 14 little brother gets to stay out all night and get bad grades and my dad doesn't say shit. But if i stay out he calls my phone 10 times wanting to know where I am.

Different but equal. They may have different specifics to their rules (like what would and wouldn't be allowed to wear to school) but the rule itself would be equal.

I don't have a son (yet) but in my house my brother had to clean and cook just like us girls. It helps prepare them for taking care of themselves later in life. I wouldn't want my son to end up like my husband and not know how to cook pasta or rice & beans. How sad is that?

I only have a girl. My father was incredibly sexist though: sending girls to college only meant they could steal jobs from men - and he had three daughters to two sons.
