If You Left, Would Your Household Hold Up?

Are you the glue that binds your family? According to a recent Reuters article, 70 percent of Canadian households are run by women, most of which also have full time jobs.

And in Hardisty, a town of 760 people, all women left their husbands to tend to the children while they relaxed at a resort for a week.

The exodus was part of a social experiment filmed for Canada's national broadcaster, the CBC. Touted as an exploration of gender issues in contemporary Canadian culture, "The Week the Women Went" is based on a BBC program by the same name.

He would, can, and has. We've both done a week or so away a couple of times, and things run as usual while one parent is gone. He's probably slightly better at it that I am.

my husband would keep the fires burning it just wouldn't be as clean as i like it

It would be extremely rough. Someone would have to step in to help because of his work schedule, but other than that, they would figure it out. Our daughters know every step of our routine and would whip Daddy right into shape!

He could deffinitely keep things together for an entire week, probably two. Any longer and things would start to fall apart, cell phone, watch, and remote control would be the first items lost. No bills would get paid, the kitchen would be the only clean area, and a bare minimum of laundry washed, everything else would totally go down the hole.

no. in fact my dad is so freaked about the possibility of something happening to me that he offered to pay our life insurance on me. my dh could handle the 2 typical kids during the week IF i set out all uniforms before hand, they bought lunch and i had someone else pick them up in the morning and after school. no homework would get done, tears would flow during piano practice and the only after school activity that would happen is swimming. that's because he swims too. and yeah, bedtime would be "when ever" and junk food would be every night. plus the house would be a disaster. and this doesn't include the special needs child. i won't go anywhere over night because of this. when the girls are older i can go, not until then.

If he didn't have to go to work, I think he could manage the kid. But, the house would be an utter disaster.

I say this because we both work full time and work opposite hours of the day so that we don't use any non family childcare right now.

I think my hubby could pull it off for a long weekend, but a whole week would be tough. But I don't think I could do it without him for longer then a weekend either. We definitely need each other for our family to work!

No, my household would fall apart. We don't have children, but I maintain every aspect of our household, including the financial bookkeeping and our taxes.

All would be more than fine here! My husband is much better at all things domestic than I (with the exception of cleaning the bathrooms- I rock that!!)

They'd be fine, my husband cooks and cleans as much as I do... they probably wouldn't be quite so type A organized and I'd want to leave lists to keep him organized, but they'd get to work and school and bathe and eat... I think that some people don't give men the credit they deserve in being perfectly capable of doing these things when we let them!

They'd be ok although I'd want to hire a maid afterward I'm sure to clean up. DH just wouldn't bother.

If he didn't have to go to work, sure he'd be fine! But, I stay at home with the kids so we don't have daycare set up for them. As long as he was on leave, he would do just fine. The kids would have the time of their lives, I'm sure. Lots of pizza and staying up late. :rotfl:
