Would You Tell Potential Employer You Were Pregnant?

It's a tough economy and some pregnant job seekers are pushing hard to find employment before their babies are born. Mamas-to-be aren't legally bound to tell potential bosses that they are expecting and until the women show there's no way the "powers that be" know.

I also have a job interview next week and I'm 5months pregnant.I'm nervous,but I'm still going because I can do the work and I'm damn good at my job!I pray that I do get the job.I'm not going to mention that I'm prgenant until afterwards because I need this job bad.Unless they really notice my belly and ask!!!!

i'm in the same situation right now ( i'm 6 months along with a job interview TOMORROW AFTERNOON :-/ ) and i have actually been told to tell your possible employer AFTER you have been presented with an job offer.... it sounds like a solid idea to me :-)

Actually one of the reasons it costs so much through your employer is they can't discriminate against pre-existing conditions. So my monthly insurance cost is nearly the same as my husbands. I have never had any real issues (besides two births- not an issue but a hospital stay) whereas my husband had a level 4 melanoma and somehow had needed surgery every year for the last 5 years (our insurance has changed twice in that span of time).

I got fired a week after I told my work I was pregnant. So I will never say anything again in the future until it is necessary. Macgirl- you would not have to pay for the high insurance along with pregnancy because they would consider it a preexisting condition and would not cover it.

Well I feel it's best to let them know, I did that with current pregnancy and I believe it hurt me in the long run. I only told my boss because she knew it and had been asking around. Oh well f*** them for pregnancy discrimination.

plus_2_kid- It would really depend on if you were the right fit. With our company only being 4 people everyone wheres multiple hats and has to be perfect for the job. If we interviewed you and you were everything we hoped to ever find in an employee then yes, we would hire you and make accommodations and hope that you tried your hardest to do the same for us. If we were hiring for receptionist though and not finding anyone with Apple experience I don't know if I would just settle for someone that had the potential to be out a lot. Just checked our employee manual and we don't offer health insurance until you've been with us for a year so we might not be a target for this anyways. If you want to be with a company for a long time then honesty is the best.

I was about 4 months along, and not even close to showing, but I still told the woman that interviewed me that I was expecting. I wanted to be open about it, and it worked out. I got called back for the job, with mention that she was impressed with my honesty.

As a woman who has had multiple miscarriages, I don't tell anyone until its obvious. Boss or not.

If it started to affect my job then yes but I see no need to disclose it unless neccessary like a rule or something.

I am in this situation and am very conflicted: I am finishing grad school and need to find a job in an already tough economy. On top of that, I just found out I am pregnant (7 weeks). I was hoping to get a job before I got pregnant but it happened faster than I thought. Luckily my field is still hiring well (environmental & geology consultants) Part of me agrees with lickety split, but on the other hand, I want to become part of a company and don't want to piss them off like macgirl says. Macgirl, would you hire me if I told you I was 7 weeks pregnant and would need to go part time for a few months after giving birth?

As a small business owner it would be a real hardship on my company if someone did this to us. Obviously people get pregnant but to know that we were only going to get 9 months out of someone and that they are using us for our very expensive health insurance really sucks.
