Would You Want Your Parents to Deliver Your Baby?

My aunt was in the delivery room when my cousin gave birth to her baby girl. It was a magical experience for both of them. But, can you imagine having your mother or father actually deliver your baby?

Like her sister, Nicole Kidman is reportedly planning to do just that. Her parents will deliver the actress' baby at home. Would you choose to have the grandparents welcome their grandchild to the world that way?

My mom, (a midwife and RN), delivered my baby and my husband was my coach. Next time, I want my husband to deliver my baby....we were such a great team together that it'd be a piece of cake!! It was a family affair...my sister was there helping me as was my dad. I wouldn't have had it any other way! I was home from the birth center 1 1/2 hours after delivery and happy as a clam. So...go for it Nicole!! It's so much more personal and special than a hospital, drug-induced delivery. More power to her!!

My mother wished to be beside me, but my husband doesn't like the idea. He said he wants to be the only one (besides the medical staffs) when our baby is born. Something private and intimate, he said. Well, I personally, doesn't mind whether my mother is there or not. But I still haven't have the gut to tell my mother to stay at home until my husband pick her up to the hospital to meet her first grandchild... :-)

i definitely want my mom in the delivery room with my husband. but thats all iwant them, hold my legs and let the doctors/nurses do the rest! poor nicole's gonna have quite the clean up at home!

nurses do not have the same training as midwives. just fyi.

that would very awkward for me. but I also agree w/ licketysplit, I would worry about a person who was too emotionally involved in the case of an emergency. I'm sure she will have a professional on hand to help out and I applaud her for being so comfortable w/ her parents.

Um there is not a chance in HELL I would let my father look at my private parts. And I know for a fact he would not be interested. I think even stuck on an elevator he would tell me to deliver myself.

ok, so are we talking about parents being both mom and dad, or just mom? because my dad delivering my baby sounds incredibly awkward.. my dad is my best friend, but this still wouldn't fly for both of us. oh well, good for her if they have that kind of relationship.

If her mom is a nurse, she would be just as qualified as a midwife to deliver her baby, no?

I wouldn't want my parents doing it(assuming they were obstetricians)unless I was in desperate need of their help at the time. My best friend's husband is a ob/gyn and she used a different doctor. He removed her c-section stiches at home later. She was not comfortable with him being her doctor.

My sister-in-law delivered her baby with the help of her mother who's a nurse. It was funny when the mother said that she made sure she would deliver the baby to ensure that the baby won't be interchanged with some other baby. :-)

You clearly don't know my parents :) Kidding aside, this wouldn't be something I'd be comfortable. In general, a traditional home birth w/ a doula isn't at all appealing to me, so having my parents in this role would be REALLY REALLY unappealing to me.

i like to deliver my babies myself. but i think her idea is pretty cool. i'm guessing if an emergency came up, she probably will not be far from a hospital.
