After years of trying to successfully become pregnant, a viable pregnancy is the best news a reproductively challenged couple can receive. The rush of emotion is overwhelming, but not quite as strong as what they will feel in a few weeks when they learn that they were implanted with the wrong embryos.

Such is the case for Carolyn and Sean Savage of Sylvania, OH, who were faced with the decision to either terminate the pregnancy or carry it to term and hand over the newborn to its biological parents. Due to their religious beliefs, the Savages will serve as surrogates and hand the baby over to the genetic parents upon its birth. Given Carolyn Savage's medical history, this is the last pregnancy she can physically handle. Though doctors and fertility clinics are quick to explain the rarity of the situation, it is truly every fertility patient's worst nightmare. How would you handle such a situation if it happened to you?

danni- I thought the same thing. I really hope someone is able to be a surrogate for this couple so they can have the baby they've been desperately waiting for and deserve.

Perhaps the biological mother could return the favor and serve as a surrogate for the mother in the article. What a sad situation and great sacrifice by the part of the pregnant woman.

I would have the baby. This is so sad, i hope that they sue the clinic and they (the clinic) at least has to pay for a surrogate for them.

I hope someone steps up and offers to carry a baby on this woman's behalf, so she can have the child she intended to. That said, the social worker in my background cries out that she should consider healing her heart by healing the life of a foster child who's waiting for a forever home...

1. Carry the baby to term and give her to her parents, as devestating as that would be. 2. Sue the hell out of the clinic.

There is no way that I could decide for another couple to terminate their pregnancy, since that is how I would see it. As devastated and angry as I would be (at the clinic), I would absolutely carry the baby to term and hand her over to her parents.

My selfish, torn, and disappointed side would be screaming terminate. But in my heart I could never do such a thing. It just amazes me how such a mistake could happen. So now she has to carry someone else's baby at the cost of not being able to have another of her own. It's so sad. I would be very angry.

wow. I would probably do the same thing they chose to do, which is to carry it to term, becuase I dont think I could live with myself if I didnt. But, how *incredibly* sad. I shed a tear for this couple.

Wow this is just awful, I can't imagine it happening to me. The choice is difficult but I think I would carry it to term too, but it might depend on how far along I was.
