I wish I could bottle my daughter's confidence. That way when she grows into a tween or teen that doubts herself, I would have it to hand back to her. She recently informed me that she's trying out for her school's talent show. When I asked if she'd be performing with friends or by herself, she told me she's going to do a "solo in front of thousands of people."
Whether or not she makes the cut or bails because of stage fright at the tryouts really doesn't matter. It was just priceless to watch my five-year-old who didn't know anyone when she started kindergarten last month decide if she should sing or play guitar because she's "good at both." My girl isn't a vocalist and has never had a music lesson, but no matter how off-key she is while belting out her homemade tune — I will beam with pride because my child completely believes in herself.

My son was the same way when he was younger and I choose to enroll him in a theater school to try and give him the tools to stay confident through out his teen years and so far it has help tremendously. He just turned 13 and still makes friends everywhere he goes and has no problem speaking in front of people. He has had several lead roles in the school plays and he loves it. Of course everyone has days where nothing is right and it feels as if the whole world is against us (I still have days like that) but overall I feel that it has really helped him stay confident.

2it is so sad running. I was that way and I still to this day struggle with confidence issues - not nearly as much as I have in recent years, but it's still a struggle some days.
3I hope my son has the same confidence he did last year he went in front of the whole school and parents and sang White Horse by Taylor Swift. At first I was worried, what are people going to think he is a boy singing a very feminine song? He did not care one bit he said mom "I love Taylor she has a beautiful voice and my sister loves that song so I am going to sing it to her" he was amazing I was in tears at how good he did no one judged him the kids were like "Zachary you are going to be famous I want your autograph."
