Who Tells Siblings That Baby Has Arrived?

Should Parents Be the Ones to Announce Baby's Debut to Other Children?

It's a boy or it's a girl, but who should tell the new addition's siblings? If mom and dad are in the midst of all the new baby bliss and hospital (or home birth) hoopla, is it the job of an outside party — a grandparent or family friend — to inform the big brother or sister? Some parents are particular in how they want to debut the news and others just believe in letting the information spread. What's your opinion?

Where's the other option? How about it's up to the discretion of the parents? If they had planned to tell the older siblings but the circumstances change, it's still up to the parents to make that choice! If whomever was watching my children had told them the news without our permission we would have been very upset!

My aunt told us when our baby brother was born. My twin and I (5 years old at the time) were worried about Mom and the baby, and getting the info that both Mom and little bro were ok was a huge relief. Was it supposed to be a special moment? I'd rather hear "Mom and baby are ok" as soon as possible than wait to hear from Mom herself.
