When Did Your Tot First Visit the Dentist?

If tooth brushing is a nightly battle in your home, you are probably dreading your tot's first visit to the dentist. The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends children visit the dentist by their first birthday while many of the pediatricians suggest kids wait until all their teeth have come in.

I cannot imagine taking a child under a year old to a dentist... that being said, we are REALLY careful with her teeth becuase i inheireted my fathers teeth which are prone to cavaties becuase theyre soft and porous. we started brushing them with the finger scrubby and the non flouride baby tooth paste at a few months old and have since switched to a tooth brush at about 10 months old becuase she had 9 teeth and i wanted to make sure they were brushed well.

Our dentist says age 3 is good unless there is a problem. My preschooler has done very well at the dentist. They show him all the tools before they do anything and then he can watch a movie if he wants during the cleaning. Before we went to the dentist at age 3 our pediatrician would take a look at well visit check ups. We have always struggled to get our kids to brush, but a sticker chart works well for our preschool and the finger brush works well for our toddler. We just had to figure out what worked best for our kids.

Our pediatrician would do a quick check since birth and just encouraged us to go once they were three. Every 6 mo since they are three and just one little mishap making us go in between :( I couldn't imagine taking my little wiggly worms before three!

Before they have them. The gums should be cleaned with a damp washcloth or a soft fingerbrush before teeth even erupt. Once teeth come through, the fingerbrush or a very soft toothbrush.

my pediatrician has said that there is no need for kids to go before age 3. (unless, of course there is a problem) my daughter was a little over 3, (and can't wait to go back in feb!!!) and my 2 year old will go next year sometime.

Our daughter went this month and she's almost 3. We had to wait to get insurance.

I don't think they can reverse it at all but they should be able to treat it and stop it from getting worse.

can a dentist reverse the signs of baby bottle teeth? or at least do something about it?

They were different ages, they both went together. The pediatrician does a mouth exam and sends us once he feels they start needing a dentist. The younger one went earlier because he'd hit his two front teeth and they were dying. I can't remember their exact ages at the time of the first visit, but the younger one hit his mouth just before he turned two, so it would've been somewhere around there.

That was because she fell and hit her tooth on her bed. One of her front teeth got pushed back into her gumline! Poor thing had to go to the ER and get stitches.
