When Did Your Babe Move From the Crib to a Bed?

My daughter made the transition from bassinet to crib to bed smoothly, but with my son it's been a different story. He did fine in the cradle, but has scarcely slept through a full night in his crib. I don't know if it's the sound of the side sliding up or the fact that he's surrounded by bars that never sat well with him. But the minute he lays in a bed, he's sound asleep (even smiling) in a matter of minutes.

So now that he's 18-months, we're taking down his crib and trading it in for a big boy bed. Like my daughter, many tots make that transition around two. When did your lil one make the move?

I had my son's crib made by a friend in a king size..I designed it so when he's ready for a bed, I can take away the side bars..Right now he's 20 months old and sleep like crazy..I wonder if it's because his bed is so big..

She was 20 months old and lucky for me she couldn't wait to sleep in the big girl bed.She was always looking for an excuse to lay down on it so the transition from the crib to the bed was very easy on all of us.

My daughter is 16 months old and I am not ready for a toddler bed. I really like knowing she isn't up roaming the house in the night! I will probably move her to a toddler bed when I start potty training!

Both of mine were about 2 1/2 when they moved to a twin bed from the crib.

My son slept in our bed (easiler to nurse) We got him a normal twin bed at age 2 and I think because it wasn't the junky toddler mattress he did very well. At age 4 we got him a VERY nice twin mattress and he loves it.

My son is 2, and I will move him to a toddler bed when he is ready.

my oldest was 3 in march and still loves her crib. the only downside to not moving her yet (we will this summer) is the occasional 2am potty call. my 20 month old is NOWHERE near ready to move. that would be a joke. neither have ever tried to climb out, so there are no issues there.

Glad to see that there are a lot of kids who transitioned later than 18 months...my twins are 17 months old and show no signs of readiness for a bed! I sleep well at night knowing they are safe and sound in their cribs for the time being. So far they have not attempted to get out of their cribs. I really can't see how they could, but apparently it's possible.

all my kids were about 1 year old when i transitioned them into a toddler bed.

I should add that my 4 year old has her own twin bed side-by-side with the main bed now. So you could say she moved to her own bed at 3 or so. She does tend to migrate back to the family bed when sick or stressed.

We co-sleep so my oldest was never in a crib (maybe a few times for naps). My youngest slept in a crib and bassinet from 2-6 months then moved back to the family bed.We'll see what happens with baby #3.

We also did co-sleeping, so he didn't use a crib.

My son is 21 months and shows no signs of being ready to transition to a toddler bed. This is fine for us, a toddler bed would open a whole new can of worms. If he stays in there until close to 3 that would be OK by me.

My oldest was in a toddler bed at about 2 and a half and a regular bed by a little after she turned 3. My youngest is special needs so we kept him in a crib as long as possible for his own safety and our peace of mind. I think he was 5 when he got a toddler bed and 6 with a regular bed. He was small for his age so it worked out well.

My son is 25 months and is still in a crib. He's never tried to get out of it and we don't see any need to move him. He's perfectly happy there!

Same here. My son never slept in a crib. He transitioned to his own bed with no problem.

We didn't. We cosleep, so our kids have never used a crib.

#1 at 3 1/2 (special needs). would NOT stay in bed but was finally big enough to climb out and that was getting dangerous. #2 at 20 months, very easy transistion. #3 don't remember exactly but it was only because she was climbing out. we had a round crib for her and it had a curtians at the posts and she would grab onto the curtains and pull herself over and then use it sort of like a rope to get down. then when she went to a bed she wouldn't stay in it :( i think she was about 18 months. she would also grab the crib bars and shake the whole crib and say "up now!" a bazillion times, lol. beast child.

My son was climbing out of the crib at 1 year, so that when he went to a toddler bed with no problem. My daughter is 15 months and no where near ready.
