When Did You First Take Your Tot to the Movies?

An outing to the movies can make a parent nervous. My kids both had their first silver screen experience as infants zipped up in my husband's jacket. For older tots, some movie theaters offer up booster seats to make your lil ones more comfortable or serve kid meals during the film. With kiddie-geared Madagascar 2 currently in theaters, we're curious how old your children were when you first took them to the movies?

I don't intend to take my kids to the movies until they're at least 5. I don't know how my youngest daughter will turn out as she gets older (she's only 5 months), but my 4 year old has significant issues in paying sustained attention and can be really LOUD. She's been making improvements, but I'd feel better giving her an extra year.

My kids are 5.5, nearly 4, and 6 months - and we haven't been to the movies with any of them yet. They can barely sit through a movie at home, there's no way I'm paying the exorbitant movie theatre prices to have them whine and fidget through a 2 hour movie. Plus, there aren't too many G films anymore, and we're selective of even the PG we let them watch. Personally, to have a child watch a PG-13 movie is something my husband and I would never do. They'll have plenty of time to be adults, and proportionately not too much time to stay innocent, sweet kids. JMHO.

We are lucky enough to have The Alamo Draft House here in Austin, Tx. They have baby days where you can go to the first two showings of movies and no one can say anything to you b/c it's baby day. you can complain if people tlak, but not if a baby cries. I love it. We just went to see the new bond movie today. Little one slept through most of it and played at the end!

we're takin my son to disney this year... he's not three yet & i think at DISNEY itself which is geared toward children of all ages that it doesnt matter if the child is 3 months, 3 years or 30. I don't think I'd take him to a movie yet, he doesnt even watch TV yet so I just dont see that being something we'd do yet. but if I thought he'd sit thru and enjoy a movie at 18 months or 2 years old... we'll take him. i think the problem w/movies or theatres that krae & pink object to, and rightly so, are children who arent able to sit & are disruptive in that setting & then the parent should take control & get them outta there.

I took my son to see Elmo in Grouch land when he was 2 and he loved it and watched the whole thing. He is now 12 and I just let him go to his first movie alone and I went to see a movie I wanted to see. It was a little sad knowing my baby is growing up. He did great, of course, and he loved the freedom. Both of our movies started and ended about the same time so it worked out great.

My son remembers Nemo and he wasn't yet three. I also don't particularly care if they remember it for life, it's an experience for that moment. Also, neither of them have ever whined and misbehaved. If they had, we would have left. I expect a lot more talking and giggling at children's movies, and it doesn't bother me. Children running around and yelling do bother me, but I find that at any age, not just before age three.

I don't have kids but when I went to see the Dark Knight some family was there with FOUR children and they all looked under the age of five!! one was a toddler that kept running up & down the aisles and then the baby started crying somewhere in the middle. The oldest was just talking the whole time. I would have been annoyed but I was just baffled that these parents thought it was a good idea to bring their whole family to batman?? I mean, it was a weekend and the film was newly released, so the theatre was very crowded and we all know how expensive tickets are.. and it was BATMAN! Gory violent scary Batman! crazy!

Kids under the age of 3 should not be allowed in movie theaters, stage theatres, or disney world. It's true. They won't remember it and they get on everyone else's nerves with their whining.

I took my daughter when she was two and she loved being in there! I took my son when was a little younger since we would take her! They saw Madagascar last week and loved it! I think I loved it just a little more...only because of Moto Moto!

at almost 4 i cant stand when parents take their disruptive kids to the movies, and especially when they dont pay attention and tend to them, and i really hate when they take them to adult movies

Awww, my son's first movie was Monsters, Inc. He was 3 or 4 can't remember when the movie came out but that was his first. He loved it and so did I.

I don't have kids, but I would like to share my story: my mom took me to the movies for the first time when I was 8. The movie was "Action Jackson." A few years later, she took me to "Total Recall" and "Terminator 2." God, I love my mom.

We took my now 3 year old to see Wall-E right before his birthday and then just last week took him to Madagascar 2. He loved them both and still talks about both of them!

I answered "other" because we have yet to take our 19 month old to the movies and was wondering what the appropriate age is. I figured once he would be able to sit still, and not just want to wander the aisle. Seems like 2.5 or 3 will probably be the age. Thanks!

We just took my two and half year old to see Madagascar. I never thought that he would make it through the whole movie, but he certainly did! He hasn't stopped talking about it since! He had so much fun that I may take him to see it again!

We went to What Lies Beneath when my son was a couple weeks old, but I'm guessing that doesn't count since he slept or nursed through the whole thing. *lol* His first "real" movie was just before he turned three when we went to Finding Nemo. We also took my second son, who was about 5 months, but it's not like he watched it or anything. My second son was well over three before we took him to a movie to sit and watch because he was much less likely to sit still. But I guess officially, they were both under a year.
