When a baby's first born, it's hard to fathom the thought of spending a second away from him. But as time goes on you need a break, and family, social, and work obligations come into play. You overcome your fear of leaving your tot in the capable hands of another adult. I remember how hard it was to kiss my daughter goodbye for the first time.
When did you first leave your child overnight?

I haven't yet (she's 17 months old). We'll probably do it soon because we're definitely going to do it when we have our next one (next June) and I don't want to traumatize her too much! I know I'm going to be a total mess, though.
1When my oldest son was eight weeks old I had to leave him as I had surgery and was hospitalized for five days. It was heartbreaking to leave him and he wasn't allowed in the hospital to see me. After that I didn't leave him overnight until he was over a year.
2He's 10 months now and I haven't yet. My first night away from him is coming up in early Dec. when I have to travel for a skating competition, but my husband will be home with him. I'm actually looking forward to a good night's sleep in a hotel! But leaving him with someone other than my husband would definitely have me anxious and I don't anticipate that any time soon.
3Over a year. It's not a fear of leaving them though, it's that there's no way in hell I'm spending a night away having to get up every few hours to pump so that my supply doesn't drop. That'll kill any relaxation and romance of going away. *lol*
4my daughter is 13 months and we have not yet but i would if we could find the time to do something!!
i would only leave her with her gammie or aunt/uncle though, no regular babysitter will do!
5I haven't yet, but there really hasn't been any need to either. He's 3 months. I would be ok with doing it though. I guess it's because my mom would be taking care of him and I know he'd be in the best hands.
6Sadie is 17 months. Heidi has to go away overnight next week, so that'll be the first night that Sadie and Heidi have spent the night apart. But Sadie and me are going to have a great time and Heidi will probably get the best night sleep she's had in 17 months, so we're all looking forward to it.
Sadie still nurses at least once during the night and Heidi isn't going to pump (not sure we even know where the thing is anymore). So I'll have a bottle of whole milk and expect to not get much sleep
.
77 months, but only because i was in a horrible car accident and on the trauma floor of the hospital. it was very difficult on her beccause my husband was on the east coast on a business trip and we had gone to visit my parents for a few days and taken only a few of her favorite things. of course they wouldn't let her visit me
8We did an overnight away at 7 months and we just left him for two nights for a wedding in Vegas a few weeks ago. He was with my mom both times so I didn't worry. It was hard but very necessary for my sanity.
9I don't have any kids yet. But the thought of leaving my children with my mother in law scares me. They will probably be very old before I do it.
10my son was in the nicu for 12 days and i stayed by his side 24-7 did everyone of his feedings and napped in the hospitals hospitality room after a pumping session in between his feedings. the night before his was discharged to go home i HAD to go home overnight so my husband and i could take him home in ONE car together. I was beside myself. cried the whole way home, thought about turning around several times (the hospital is about a 45min drive). my husband tried to distract me but once i was home i called he nicu every 2 hrs for an update. he was so tiny and on a apnea monitor i couldnt bare to think about what could happen. but now hes home and growing. and we couldnt be happier!
11ps- HE WAS FINE ALL NITE. and i was all worried for nothing. =)
My son was just weeks away from his 6 month birthday the first time we left him overnight at his grandparents house (my in-laws). It was for my husband's company holiday party and they were holding it near their corporate offices which were a few hours away. It was hard but at least I had the party to distract me and I knew he was in very capable hands. I was up at 6am the next morning, ready to go home and get him!

13My baby was only 5 weeks old. Because I'm a doctor I have to take overnight call in the hospital. It's hard, but Dad has quickly become a pro!!! I'm starting a night shift tonight and will be away every night for 2 weeks. THAT is going to be hard.
14I left my son when he was 2 weeks old for a night with my grandmother. She raised four kids, did an excellent job, and it was just so I could get some rest. My fiance works night shift, I didn't get much sleep. After that, it was only once or twice that he has stayed out and he will be a year old in two weeks. He will be sleeping at his other grandmother's this weekend for one night, she never got to keep him overnight yet and she wants to, and I am going to a friend's birthday party. It's SO hard leaving him, but once in a while I need it, although I miss him the entire time..
