What's Your Ideal Work Schedule?

Last night's episode of Jon and Kate Plus 8 touched on Jon's new job and flexible work schedule which allows the father of eight, to spend more time at home with his wife and kids.

Balancing work and family is a dilemma moms and dads continually face. And, unfortunately many working parents have to make sacrifices in order to keep up with the cost of living.

In a dream world, what would you choose?

I'm a Stay At Home Mom. My daughter was born 4 months ago and I can't imagine myself working right now.

I was a SAHM and it just wasn't for me. I don't think my daughter got the best socialization that she could have if she went to school. Plus- I need a professional challenge to meet. Ideally, I would like to work from home with a flexible schedule.

After my first son was born I couldn't wait to go back to work for some adult interaction but after a couple of years I felt I was missing out on too much so I am now a SAHM. I now have three kids and while sometimes it can be overwhelming and it would sure be a lot easier with two incomes, they are only little once and I don't want to miss that. I can always go back to work when they get older.

I would love to just be part time. I want a big family so I want to be with my kids, but I want my job too. Can I just say that last night's Jon and Kate was so adorable? I loved how giddy Kate got when Jon came home early. It gave her major bonus points in my book.

i am surprised more people aren't choosing 'part time' as their ideal option. i will be moving to a p/t schedule after my baby is born and i feel so lucky to have that option. i have no desire to stay home full time, and i think the p/t socialization and stimulation of daycare will be great for my daughter. i will also get to contribute and serve as a good role model for her as a working woman, which is important to me.

I am a SAHM. Our family has made a lot of sacrifices to be home, and I am so grateful for the opportunity to be there for my children. I can appreciate single-parent homes and dual income families who have to work to make ends meet. I know they are doing their best for their children and families.

If I could afford to stay home, thats what I would love to do. However, since I need to work a flexible schedule works best, thankfully most of my bosses were/are parents so they are very understanding if I need to leave early or if I can't come in because of a doc's appt.

Who wouldn't like to be a SAHM, but it isn't that financially convenient for most families. I wish more companies would jump on the flex schedule bandwagon and do the entire workforce of full time working moms a huge favor.

I'd love to be a SAHM, but since I don't think that's realistically in my future, I wish that I had a more flexible schedule. I'd love to get home earlier! (Especially once I have kids.)

When I have a kid, I want to be a SAHM for the first 5-7 years then have a flexible full-time job :)

About what we have now. One of us is able to drop off at daycare, one picks up, and we each get our time with the kids. But we're both home by five and have weekends and holidays together, so we have a ton of family time as well.
